Job title: Dealer principal
Salary: R40 000/month
Location: Durban
Key Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide overall strategic leadership and direction for the dealership
- Take full accountability for dealership profitability, growth, and sustainability
- Oversee all departments: Sales, Finance & Insurance (F&I), Parts, Service, and Admin
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards, legal requirements, and internal policies
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial performance (P&L responsibility)
- Drive sales targets, market share growth, and customer satisfaction
- Maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, and financiers
- Lead, mentor, and performance-manage departmental managers
- Implement operational efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure excellent customer experience and handle escalated customer issues
- Oversee HR matters including recruitment, discipline, training, and staff retention
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and market opportunities
Requirements / Qualifications
- Proven experience in senior dealership management (Dealer Principal / General Manager level)
- Grade 12
- Strong understanding of automotive retail operations
- Financial and business management experience (P&L responsibility essential)
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Management, or Finance (advantageous)
- OEM or franchised dealership experience preferred
- Valid driver’s licence
- Strong knowledge of compliance, governance, and labour legislation
