Brooklyn Senior Insurance Law Litigation Secretary - Insurance law experience essential

Salary: Gross R25,000 – R30,000 per month (Negotiable based on experience)

A well-established law firm based in the upscale area of Brooklyn, Pretoria, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Insurance Law Litigation Secretary to join their dynamic team.

Insurance law litigation involves legal disputes between policyholders and insurers over policy interpretation, liability, and claims for example repudiated claims, liability defense, and third-party recoveries. These disputes typically involves specific types of proceedings and resources:

• Coverage Disputes: Policyholders sue to enforce policy benefits or dispute an insurer's decision to repudiate a claim.
• Liability Defense & Personal Injury: Insurers legally defend their insureds against third-party claims for harm, property damage, or professional malpractice. In South Africa, a notable volume of this litigation relates to motor vehicle accidents and the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
• Subrogation & Recovery: Insurers litigate against responsible third parties to recover amounts paid out to their insureds under a policy.
• Ombudsman Resolution: For disputes regarding financial services providers, consumers can escalate cases to the National Financial Ombud Scheme (NFO) to reach an independent, free resolution before heading to court.

Key Responsibilities

• Dictation Typing: Accurately transcribing and typing legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence from digital dictation.

• Litigation Support: Managing court files, drafting legal documents, and ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.

• Administrative Management: Handling day-to-day legal administration, scheduling appointments, and managing the attorney's diary.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Proven track record as a Senior Litigation Secretary.

• Specialized Knowledge: Strong working knowledge and experience in Insurance Law is essential.

• Language Skills: Excellent communication skills in both English and Afrikaans (written and verbal).

• Technical Skills: Proficient in legal dictation software and standard MS Office packages.

• Attributes: High attention to detail, ability to work independently under pressure, and strong organizational skills.
