Attorney – Commercial Law

Location: Muckleneuk, Pretoria

Employment Type: Full-time

Start Date: ASAP

Remuneration: R20,000 per month

The firm is looking for a candidate with solid commercial law experience and must be comfortable handling matters with limited supervision. This is a hands-on role suited to an attorney who can take ownership of their matters, manage their own files and deal directly and professionally with clients.

Minimum Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa (Minimum 1 year post admission experience)

• Previous experience in Commercial Law is essential

• Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and contracts

• Experience providing corporate and commercial legal advice

• Exposure to general commercial litigation support

• Ability to manage matters and files with limited supervision

• Comfortable dealing directly with clients and other stakeholders

• Strong drafting and legal research skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure

• Good organisational and time-management skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain own commercial law files from instruction through to completion

• Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements and contracts

• Provide practical legal advice to clients on commercial and corporate matters

• Assist clients with general corporate and commercial legal requirements

• Conduct legal research and provide advice on relevant legislation and case law

• Draft legal opinions, correspondence, notices and other legal documentation

• Assist with commercial litigation matters, including drafting and preparation of relevant documentation

• Liaise directly with clients and provide regular updates regarding their matters

• Communicate with opposing attorneys, counsel, companies and other relevant stakeholders

• Monitor deadlines and ensure that matters progress efficiently

• Attend to the day-to-day management and administration of own files

• Identify potential legal and commercial risks and provide appropriate advice to clients

• Ensure that all work is completed accurately, professionally and within required timeframes
