Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Remuneration: Market-related Monthly Stipend
Experience Level: Entry Level / Recent Graduate (0–1 Year)
About Upstream Systems
At Upstream Systems, we partner with leading mobile network operators, aggregators, and tech providers across Africa. We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Legal Intern to join our team on a fixed-term contract.
This is a hands-on, high-learning opportunity where you’ll act as the first line of review for our commercial telecom agreements across multiple African markets, working directly under the supervision and mentorship of our Head Office Legal Counsel.
What You’ll Be Doing
As the first legal reader of incoming partner agreements, amendments, and renewals, you will triage contracts before they reach Head Office Legal. Your primary goal is to spot risks, highlight commercial points, and help shepherd deals through to execution.
•
Contract Review & Triage: Read and review commercial contracts (including MSAs, SLAs, NDAs, Revenue-Share, and Data Processing Agreements) to flag uncapped liability, weak termination clauses, IP risks, and unfavorable governing law.
•
Commercial Alignment: Highlight business terms (pricing, payment cycles, minimum commitments, withholding tax) and align them with our standard internal checklists.
•
Contract Annotations: Insert clear, concise track-changes comments on contract.
