Assistant General Management Couple Location: Luxury Game Lodge – South Africa Reporting To: General Manager / Lodge Owner Employment Type: Live-in Position (Couple Role) Position Overview A luxury game lodge in South Africa is seeking a dynamic, experienced Assistant General Management Couple to support the General Manager in overseeing daily lodge operations. This role is ideal for a hospitality-driven couple where complementary skills (e.g., Front of House & Operations / Field Guide & Administration / F&B & Maintenance) ensure seamless guest experiences and operational excellence. The couple will act as second-in-command, maintaining 5-star standards, ensuring guest satisfaction, managing staff, and overseeing lodge performance in line with brand standards and conservation values. Key Responsibilities Assistant GM – Partner 1 (Operations / FOH / Admin Focus) Oversee daily lodge operations in the absence of the General Manager Manage Front of House, reservations, and guest relations Ensure exceptional 5-star guest experiences Handle complaints and special requests professionally Assist with budgeting, stock control, and financial reporting Monitor service standards in housekeeping and F&B Staff scheduling, training, and performance management Ensure compliance with South African labour and health & safety regulations Support marketing initiatives and community engagement Assistant GM – Partner 2 (Field / Maintenance / F&B / Guiding Focus – Depending on Skillset) (Specific duties depend on qualifications and lodge needs) Option A – Field Guide / Safari Operations Conduct guided game drives and bush walks (if qualified) Ensure guest safety and environmental compliance Maintain safari vehicles and equipment Share conservation knowledge and lodge sustainability initiatives Option B – Maintenance / Technical Operations Oversee lodge maintenance, infrastructure, and grounds Manage preventative maintenance programs Supervise workshop and maintenance staff Ensure water, solar, generator, and waste systems operate efficiently Option C – F&B / Culinary Oversight Oversee kitchen and bar operations Monitor food quality, hygiene, and stock control Manage supplier relationships Minimum Requirements For Both: Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in luxury lodge or 4/5-star hospitality management Strong leadership and staff management skills Excellent guest service orientation Financial acumen and stock control experience Valid driver’s license Computer literacy (MS Office, hospitality systems such as Opera / NightsBridge) South African work eligibility Additional (Role Dependent): Valid FGASA qualification & PDP (if guiding) First Aid certification Hospitality diploma or relevant qualification Maintenance or trade certification (if applicable) Key Competencies Strong communication & interpersonal skills Conflict resolution abilities Problem-solving & decision-making Attention to detail Ability to work under pressure High emotional intelligence Cultural sensitivity Passion for wildlife conservation Working Conditions Live-in position (shared accommodation provided) 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off cycle (depending on lodge policy) Remote bush environment Weekend and public holiday work required Performance Indicators (KPIs) Guest satisfaction scores Staff retention and morale Budget adherence Service quality audits Operational efficiency
