Job Summary
We are urgently looking to recruit an experienced and highly skilled Senior Plumber to join our hospitality team in Stellenbosch. TEAM OPENING: Senior Plumber The Senior Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of all plumbing, water reticulation, drainage, sanitation, hot water, and associated mechanical systems throughout the hotel and related facilities. The role ensures reliable plumbing services that support guest comfort, operational efficiency, and compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards. The Senior Plumber provides technical leadership for the plumbing function and supports the Facilities Manager with preventative maintenance planning, plumbing-related projects, and contractor supervision. The role ensures that all installations, repairs, and maintenance are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. The Senior Plumber also contributes to the effective operation of the maintenance team, ensuring that plumbing systems remain reliable, compliant, well-maintained, and fit for purpose. Key responsibilities Lead; supervise, coach, and provide technical guidance to plumbers, maintenance staff, junior plumbers, and apprentices. Install; maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all plumbing, water reticulation, drainage, sewer, stormwater, irrigation, and related systems. Maintain pumps, geysers, calorifiers, boilers, water tanks, pressure systems, filtration equipment, and associated plumbing infrastructure. Read and interpret plumbing plans, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Conduct preventative maintenance, inspections, fault-finding, and emergency repairs to ensure reliable operation and minimise disruption. Monitor water consumption, pressure, and flow while supporting water conservation and sustainability initiatives. Assist with plumbing installations, renovations, refurbishments, and capital projects, ensuring compliance with specifications and regulations. Coordinate with contractors, clients, maintenance teams, and other trades to ensure efficient completion of work. Supervise contractors and ensure all work meets required quality, safety, regulatory, and hotel standards. Manage plumbing materials, tools, equipment, stock, and procurement requirements, ensuring economical use and minimising waste. Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards, service reports, asset histories, and equipment documentation. Complete work efficiently and within required deadlines while maintaining clean, safe, and professional work areas. Ensure all plumbing work is completed with minimal disruption to guests and hotel operations. Participate in the on-call or standby roster as required. Knowledge; skills and qualities Qualified and licensed plumber with a recognised trade certification. Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience, preferably in hospitality, commercial, healthcare, or large-facility environments. Advanced knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, including water reticulation, drainage, sanitation, pumps, booster systems, hot water generation, and water treatment. Strong fault-finding, diagnostic, problem-solving, and emergency response skills. Ability to read and interpret plumbing plans, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications. Proven leadership, supervisory, coaching, and mentoring skills. Sound knowledge of plumbing regulations, building codes, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements, and safe working practices. Strong planning, organisational, time management, and prioritisation skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors, guests, and other departments. Customer-focused; professional, reliable, and able to work independently and under pressure. Computer literate, with experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) advantageous. Valid driver’s license & own reliable transport.
