Our client is one of Africa’s most iconic and award-winning luxury safari companies, renowned for extraordinary properties, world-class conservation efforts, and exceptional guest experiences across multiple exclusive destinations. They set the benchmark for sustainable luxury travel on the continent. This is an opportunity to join a brand that stands for excellence and purpose in equal measure based in one of the world’s most breathtaking natural environments, the pristine Okavango Delta in Botswana. Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will take full responsibility for the technical services function across the lodge and its associated facilities. This includes managing environmental and asset plans, overseeing a hands-on maintenance team, ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation, and maintaining the highest operational standards across all mechanical, electrical, and building systems. The role requires a practical leader who can balance technical expertise with financial management, people development, and effective supplier relationships – all while upholding the property’s conservation values in a remote, off-grid environment. ???????????? A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a technical services, maintenance management, or facilities management role. A Civil or Mechanical Engineering qualification, Trade Degree or Diploma – or equivalent hands-on operational experience across areas such as construction, water reticulation, borehole systems, solar/renewable energy, refrigeration, HVAC, or sewage treatment. Demonstrated experience working in a remote or off-grid environment with limited external infrastructure and support. Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage a diverse technical and maintenance team. Sound working knowledge of High and Low Voltage electrical systems, water and sewer treatment plants, and HVAC systems. Computer literate with working knowledge of IT systems and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Broad technical understanding of vehicle servicing, plant operations, and specialised equipment. Project management experience will be an advantage. Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Clear written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in English is essential. A solid grounding in labour law principles and disciplinary procedures. Valid First Aid certificate. A genuine passion for environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation. High personal service standards and a commitment to the hospitality and conservation sectors. Strong management acumen and the ability to operate with a high degree of independence at a senior level. High energy levels and the resilience to respond effectively to operational incidents and emergencies as an on-site senior manager. Valid citizenship or appropriate working authorisation for Botswana.
