Job Summary
A 4-Star Business Hotel in the Northern Limpopo region requires a Dual-Track General Manager to oversee multiple operational departments. The successful GM candidate will bring a strong background in both Food & Beverage and Rooms Division Management, running day-to-day operations to drive revenue and guest satisfaction. The role requires a hands-on leader who can build a high-performing team and strengthen the hotel's market position within the regional commercial and tourism sector. Key Responsibilities: 1. Strategic Leadership & Operational Excellence Lead; inspire, and develop the hotel team across all operational departments. Set clear performance goals and KPIs for Department Heads (HODs) to ensure accountability. Run regular management briefings to ensure seamless coordination between Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and Maintenance. Enforce strict compliance with company standard operating procedures (SOPs), brand standards, and quality controls. 2. Financial Management & Profitability Take full responsibility for the P&L ; driving performance against the hotel’s annual Operating Budget and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) plans. Monitor weekly and monthly financial performance ; tightly managing food and beverage costs, labor hours, procurement, and operational expenses. Work with the central revenue and sales teams on yield management and 90-day forecasting to maximize Room and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) revenue. 3. Guest Experience & Reputation Management Build a guest-first service culture ; maintaining high visibility in public areas during peak operational times. Manage service recovery directly ; resolving escalated guest complaints and billing disputes efficiently. Monitor online reviews and guest satisfaction scores ; taking swift corrective action to protect the hotel's digital reputation. 4. Human Resources & Talent Development Oversee recruitment, on-boarding, training, and performance appraisals to reduce staff turnover and develop local talent. Maintain strong employee relations ; resolve internal conflicts, and foster a safe, motivating work environment. Manage disciplinary and compliance protocols strictly in line with South African labor legislation (BCEA, LRA). 5. Asset Management & Compliance Oversee preventative maintenance programs to preserve the physical property, grounds, and infrastructure. Manage capital projects and refurbishments with minimal disruption to the guest experience. Ensure absolute compliance with local municipality bylaws, occupational health and safety regulations (OHSA), liquor licensing, and environmental laws. Candidate Requirements: Qualifications & Education A Degree or National Diploma in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Experience Minimum of 3 to 4 years of progressive hotel management experience with full Profit and Loss (P&L) accountability within a full-service 4-star or 5-star environment. A strong track record managing high-volume conferencing, corporate events, and premium leisure stays. Solid experience navigating South African hospitality labor dynamics, market variables, and regulatory landscapes. Core Skills & Competencies Strong commercial acumen with deep knowledge of hotel budgeting, financial auditing, and forecasting. Excellent leadership and communication skills to manage diverse teams and high-profile stakeholders. Sharp problem-solving and crisis management capabilities. Proficiency in standard Property Management Systems (PMS) like Opera or Apex, alongside the MS Office suite and Excel
