Job Summary
Our client in the telecommunications / wireless internet services industry is seeking to employ an experienced High Site Manager to join their growing technical operations team.
This position can be based at any of the following branches: St Francis, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Sedgefield, George, Mossel Bay, Greyton, or Franschhoek (preferred).
Requirements:
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience within a WISP, telecommunications, RF infrastructure, or network operations environment
- Proven experience managing wireless high sites and field operations
- Strong knowledge of wireless RF infrastructure including Ubiquiti and MikroTik platforms
- Experience with monitoring systems such as Zabbix and Splynx
- Knowledge of solar, UPS, battery backup, and diesel generator systems
- Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and preventative maintenance
- Strong administrative, reporting, and operational management skills
- Ability to manage technicians, contractors, and vendors across multiple regions
- Strong organisational, communication, and time management skills
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Knowledge of ICASA regulations and OHSA safety standards
- Working at Heights / Fall Arrest knowledge and compliance management experience
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel between sites when required
Responsibilities:
High Site Operations and Monitoring
- Monitor and manage all high site operations across multiple regions
- Review Zabbix, Splynx, and other monitoring platforms daily for alarms, outages, and signal degradation
- Coordinate technician dispatch for faults, maintenance, and emergency incidents
- Ensure high site uptime, performance, and network stability
- Conduct preventative and scheduled maintenance planning
Technical Oversight and Fault Management
- Coordinate escalated technical faults with L2 and L3 support teams
- Provide technical guidance to field technicians during installations, alignments, and troubleshooting
- Monitor post-repair network performance and service stability
- Conduct root cause analysis on recurring technical issues
Power and Environmental Systems Management
- Monitor and manage solar, battery, UPS, and diesel generator systems
- Ensure all high sites maintain sufficient backup power autonomy
- Identify and resolve environmental and power-related risks proactively
Team and Technician Management
- Manage and coordinate daily technician schedules and task allocations
- Conduct weekly team meetings and operational check-ins
- Review technician performance, reporting accuracy, and skill development needs
- Ensure all technician reports, photos, safety documentation, and checklists are completed accurately and timeously
- Drive accountability and operational excellence across field teams
Administration and Reporting
- Maintain accurate operational documentation, maintenance records, and compliance files
- Ensure all dashboards, spreadsheets, and statistics are updated regularly
- Compile and submit weekly and monthly operational reports to management
- Maintain structured filing systems for site documentation, landlord communication, asset tracking, and safety certifications
Safety, Compliance and Security
- Ensure compliance with ICASA regulations, OHSA standards, and company safety procedures
- Conduct regular safety inspections and PPE checks
- Ensure all fall arrest certifications and safety training remain current
- Monitor site security, access control, and equipment integrity
- Maintain communication with landlords and site owners regarding scheduled visits and maintenance activities
Asset and Infrastructure Management
- Maintain accurate asset registers and equipment tracking records
- Manage firmware records, antenna alignments, site diagrams, and maintenance history
- Track warranties, ownership details, and spare equipment availability
Strategic Planning and Network Expansion
- Conduct capacity planning and identify overloaded or high-risk sites
- Recommend infrastructure upgrades and expansion opportunities
- Assist with planning new tower builds, upgrades, and high site deployments
- Support budgeting for hardware, maintenance, transport, and operational requirements
