Job Summary
A gorgeous, hillside lodge is seeking a hands-on and highly organised MAINTENANCE MANAGER This is a practical, all-rounder role for someone who is technically skilled and comfortable leading a team in a remote, 5-star lodge environment. The successful candidate will take full ownership of the maintenance department, balancing hands-on technical work with strong people management. Core Criteria: Proven maintenance management experience within a lodge, hotel or similar hospitality setting Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of approximately 8 staff members Strong working knowledge of electrical, plumbing and general building maintenance Experience with air-conditioning, geysers, pumps, pools and water systems advantageous Understanding of solar systems and basic electrical troubleshooting Solid grasp of preventative maintenance principles Strong stock-control and organisational skills Sound knowledge of health and safety, firefighting and first aid Confident; solutions-driven approach with the ability to work independently Basic administrative competence (Excel, Word, email); PanHospitality experience a plus, training provided Calm and effective under pressure, particularly during emergencies Valid driver's licence Minimum 3 years' relevant hospitality experience required Core Responsibilities: Lead and manage a maintenance team of 8, overseeing all upkeep of the lodge, grounds and staff areas Execute and schedule preventative maintenance on all appliances, buildings and infrastructure Train staff on correct procedures and health and safety standards; document training accordingly Maintain firefighting equipment and documented fire plans in line with legislation Manage stock, tools and spares to ensure accountability and efficiency Assist with vehicle maintenance and liaise with external mechanics where needed Oversee upkeep of the solar plant and associated infrastructure Support lodge security during night watchman absences Conduct monthly stock takes Respond to emergency maintenance needs after hours Assist across departments as operational needs require On Offer: Salary: R20,000 – R25,000 per month, based on experience Medical aid contribution of R1,478.35 per month after a 3-month probation period Live-in position; private room with en-suite bathroom All meals provided Uniform; free WiFi, laundry and room-cleaning service Staff gratuities 16 lodge bednights per year for friends or family, plus generous staff village bednights 2 complimentary bednights at a sister property annually Access to lodge gym; staff discounts on drinks, curios and flights Leave cycle of 36 days on, 12 days off, plus 21 floating days per year
