About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading organisation within the construction and mining equipment industry, is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Rental Manager to oversee and grow its equipment rental division.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the rental business, ensuring maximum fleet utilisation, delivering exceptional customer service, and driving profitability. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy equipment, fleet management, customer relationship management and business development.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric)
Diploma or Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management or a related field will be advantageous
Minimum 5 years' experience in equipment rental, fleet management, construction, mining or heavy equipment industries
Previous management or supervisory experience
Strong commercial and business development skills
Computer literate in Microsoft Office and ERP systems
Valid driver's license
Willingness to travel when required
Advantageous
Experience managing an earthmoving or construction equipment rental fleet
Knowledge of fleet management systems
Strong understanding of equipment maintenance planning and asset management
Experience working with dealers, contractors and mining or construction customers
Key Responsibilities
Manage the daily operations of the equipment rental department
Develop and implement rental strategies to maximise fleet utilisation and profitability
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders
Identify new business opportunities and expand the rental customer base
Prepare quotations, negotiate rental agreements and manage customer contracts
Coordinate equipment availability, scheduling and logistics
Work closely with workshop and service teams to ensure fleet readiness and reliability
Monitor fleet performance, utilisation, downtime and maintenance schedules
Manage rental budgets, revenue targets and operational costs
Analyse rental performance and prepare management reports
Ensure accurate invoicing, contract administration and customer documentation
Monitor market trends and competitor activity
Lead, mentor and develop the rental team
Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations and operational procedures
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency
