GROUP FINANCIAL MANAGER

Job Description

An established and diversified group of privately owned businesses is looking for a strong, hands-on Group Financial Manager to take ownership of the finance function across five to six operating companies.

This is a broad portfolio role suited to a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys being close to the business. You will lead a finance team of approximately 8+ people, oversee the full monthly finance cycle across the group, and work closely with directors and shareholders on reporting, cash flow, funding and financial decision-making.

The group operates across engineering and related service-based environments, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the pace and variety of operational businesses.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Lead the monthly finance and accounting function across multiple group companies
  

• Manage, mentor and oversee a finance team of approximately 8+ staff across accounting, debtors, creditors and stock control
  

• Review accounting work completed by the team and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information
  

• Prepare and present monthly management accounts to directors and shareholders
  

• Prepare regular forecasts and provide meaningful insight into business performance
  

• Process and review final journals, trial balances, fixed asset registers and month-end reconciliations
  

• Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances across the group
  

• Oversee VAT, PAYE/EMP201, provisional tax and related statutory calculations, submissions and payments
  

• Review payroll and oversee the release of salary payments
  

• Prepare audit files and coordinate information required for the annual audit
  

• Take an active role in cash flow and working-capital management
  

• Support debtor escalations and assist management with improving cash conversion
  

• Assist with overdrafts, loan applications and other funding requirements
  

• Engage with banks, funders and other external stakeholders where required
  

• Partner with management to strengthen financial controls, reporting processes and overall financial visibility across the group
  

Requirements

Requirements

• Relevant BCom or equivalent Finance/Accounting degree
  

• Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles
  

• AGA(SA) or SAIPA designation strongly preferred
  

• Minimum 2 years' relevant post-articles commercial experience
  

• Previous experience managing or supervising a finance team
  

• Strong management accounting and month-end reporting experience
  

• Solid understanding of VAT, payroll, tax and statutory compliance
  

• Comfortable managing multiple companies, entities or business units simultaneously
  

• Experience within an operational, automotive, engineering, manufacturing, distribution or similar commercial environment would be highly advantageous
  

• Strong Excel and financial systems capability
  

• Able to operate at management level while remaining willing to get into the detail when required
  

• Confident communicating financial information to senior management, directors and shareholders
