Job Summary
A secluded island lodge on Lake Malawi is seeking an experienced and hands-on GENERAL MANAGER to take full leadership of this remote luxury safari and lake operation. This is a senior, multi-disciplinary role for someone who has run a luxury lodge from top to bottom: financials, operations, guest experience, and team leadership all fall under your remit. The ideal candidate thrives in an isolated, boat-access environment and is ready to commit to a long-term future with the property. Core Criteria: Degree or diploma in Hospitality, Tourism, or Business Management Minimum 6 years' experience in the luxury safari lodge or wider tourism industry Minimum 4 years as a Lodge Manager or equivalent senior operational role Minimum 5 years as a General Manager or senior leader with full P&L responsibility Proven track record managing multi-department operations (rooms, F&B, guest services, maintenance, finance, admin) Strong financial management skills: budgeting, forecasting, cost control, revenue optimisation, reporting Solid leadership and staff development ability, with experience building and mentoring high-performing teams Advanced computer literacy, particularly Excel, and comfort with hospitality systems (PMS, POS, stock management, accounting software) Valid driver's licence Health and safety qualification, or willingness to obtain one Willing to relocate long-term and settle into remote lodge living Comfortable with an extended on/off duty cycle (roughly three weeks on, one week off) Not suited to candidates with young children or pets, given the remote setting Core Responsibilities: Provide overall strategic leadership and drive long-term business growth Manage budgets, control costs, and oversee financial and commercial performance Oversee day-to-day operations across the lodge, including facilities, boats, and infrastructure Maintain procurement, stock control, and asset management standards Champion an exceptional, guest-centred culture and monitor satisfaction levels Work with sales and marketing to grow occupancy and strengthen trade relationships Represent the property at industry events and with key stakeholders Support conservation initiatives and community engagement in the surrounding area Ensure compliance with company policy, concession agreements, and legal requirements Report accurately to Directors on operational and financial performance Package: Salary: negotiable, dependent on experience Live-in position, fully furnished accommodation and all meals provided while on duty 18 working days of paid annual leave per year Participation in the company's Management Incentive Scheme Comprehensive medical insurance One annual return economy flight to home country Use of a company vehicle for business purposes Monthly phone allowance
