Executive Housekeeper – Hospitality Industry (Durban Resort) About the Role We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Executive Housekeeper to lead our housekeeping department at a busy resort property in Durban. This is a key leadership role responsible for maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, presentation, and guest satisfaction across the property. Key Responsibilities Lead; supervise, and coordinate the daily operations of the housekeeping team, including room attendants, supervisors, and laundry staff. Ensure all guest rooms, suites, public areas, and back-of-house spaces consistently meet or exceed the resort’s high cleanliness and presentation standards. Recruit; train, mentor, and motivate housekeeping staff to deliver outstanding service and maintain team performance. Conduct regular inspections of guest units, public areas, and facilities; implement corrective actions where needed. Manage staff schedules, rosters, and timekeeping to ensure optimal coverage, especially during peak periods. Oversee the management of an outsourced housekeeping company (where applicable), while providing ongoing training, motivation, and quality control. Control housekeeping inventories, including cleaning supplies, linens, uniforms, and guest amenities; monitor usage and place orders within budget. Handle guest requests and complaints professionally, ensuring swift resolution and a positive guest experience. Collaborate with other departments (Front Office, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, etc.) to ensure seamless operations and address any maintenance or service issues promptly. Ensure full compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Prepare departmental reports, monitor costs, and contribute to continuous improvement of housekeeping procedures and standards. Skills and Qualifications Minimum 5 years’ proven experience in a senior housekeeping role (Executive Housekeeper or Assistant Executive Housekeeper) within a hotel or resort environment. Strong leadership, people management, and motivational skills with the ability to build and develop high-performing teams. Excellent organisational and time-management abilities, with a keen eye for detail. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine guest-focused and positive attitude. Solid knowledge of housekeeping operations, cleaning standards, laundry management, and health & safety regulations. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and shifts as required in a 24/7 resort operation. Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Office, property management systems an advantage). A qualification in Hospitality Management, Housekeeping Supervision, or a related field is highly advantageous. Valid driver’s licence and own transport would be an advantage (depending on the specific property needs).
