ABOUT THE ROLE
The Manager: Legal & Governance will provide comprehensive legal advisory and governance support to the PSSPF. The role encompasses contract management, regulatory engagement, litigation oversight and ownership of the member complaints function. Candidates should note that the PSSPF currently has active litigation matters. The successful candidate will work closely with the Board of Trustees and sub-committees and will serve as the PSSPF’s primary legal authority.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
LLB degree — hard requirement
Admitted attorney or advocate — hard requirement
Minimum 5 years’ post-admission experience, with preference given to candidates with retirement fund or financial services sector experience
Sound knowledge of the Pension Funds Act, the Financial Sector Regulation Act and retirement fund governance frameworks
Proven experience in managing litigation matters and instructing and managing external legal counsel
Strong drafting, negotiation and legal advisory skills
Experience engaging with the FSCA, the FST and other regulatory bodies
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide legal opinions, draft and review contracts and agreements, and manage legal risk across the organisation
Oversee and manage all active and emerging litigation matters and relationships with external legal counsel
Own and manage the member complaints function in full compliance with the Pension Funds Act and FSCA requirements
Support the Board of Trustees and all sub-committees on legal, regulatory and governance matters
Ensure the PSSPF’s governance framework remains current, robust and compliant
Liaise with the FSCA, FST and other regulatory bodies as required
