Job Summary
The Butler is responsible for delivering a personalised; discreet and exceptionally high standard of guest service ; acting as a key point of contact for guests and ensuring that their stay is seamless and memorable. Current Simon’s Town luxury-hotel roles place particular emphasis on personalised guest service, dining and beverage service, anticipating guest needs, and close coordination with the kitchen and other departments. Key Duties and Responsibilities Guest Experience Welcome and personally assist guests on arrival. Escort guests to their rooms and provide a detailed orientation of the hotel and facilities. Act as the primary point of contact for allocated guests throughout their stay. Anticipate guest needs and provide proactive, personalised service. Record and communicate guest preferences, special occasions and dietary requirements. Handle guest requests, queries and complaints professionally and discreetly. Assist with VIP guests and special arrangements. Food & Beverage Service Provide professional breakfast, lunch and dinner service where required. Set up and clear dining areas to five-star standards. Serve food and beverages with excellent knowledge of formal service etiquette. Have a good understanding of menus, ingredients, dietary requirements and wine. Prepare and serve beverages, cocktails and coffee where required. Liaise closely with the kitchen to ensure smooth and timely service. Monitor service-related stock and assist with stock takes. Personalised Guest Services Arrange restaurant reservations, activities, transfers and excursions. Assist with luggage and guest belongings when required. Arrange special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and honeymoon experiences. Assist with in-room dining and private dining experiences. Ensure guest rooms and service areas are presented to luxury standards. Maintain a detailed knowledge of hotel facilities and local attractions in Simon’s Town and Cape Town. Interdepartmental Coordination Work closely with Housekeeping, Reception, Food & Beverage, Kitchen and Management. Communicate guest requests accurately and promptly. Follow up on outstanding guest requests to ensure completion. Report maintenance, service or guest-related issues to Management. Participate in daily briefings and service meetings. Standards & Administration Maintain impeccable personal presentation and grooming. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding guests and their personal information. Ensure hygiene, health and safety standards are followed. Assist with stock control and service-related inventories. Maintain accurate guest preference and service information. Work shifts, weekends and public holidays as required. Qualifications & Experience Essential: Grade 12 / Matric. 3–5 years' experience in a luxury hotel, boutique hotel, lodge or five-star hospitality environment is preferred. Previous experience in Butler, Guest Relations, Waiter/Waitress, F&B or a senior service position. Excellent knowledge of luxury guest service standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Professional; polished and well-groomed appearance. Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate guest requirements. Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
