The property is currently undergoing an extensive redevelopment, including the construction of new guest suites and the complete rebuild of the main lodge. The redesigned facilities will feature a modern, thoughtfully curated layout, including a new kitchen, bar, dining area, and elegant guest spaces, all designed to support an elevated lodge experience blending refined hospitality, warm personalised service, and authentic safari moments. The lodge will accommodate up to twenty international guests, offering exclusive seven-night fixed-stay safari experiences arranged through its established European ownership and agency network. This is a high‑impact, guest‑facing role centred on leading the lodge’s bar experience. The Bar Steward / Butler is responsible for delivering exceptional beverage service, driving drink sales, maintaining accurate stock control, and creating memorable, interactive drink‑related experiences for guests. The ideal candidate has a big, warm, confident personality, thrives on guest interaction, and is naturally skilled at selling drinks through charm, knowledge, and creativity. Strong South African wine knowledge is preferred, along with the creativity to host wine tastings, food‑and‑wine pairings, themed drink evenings, and other special beverage experiences. In addition to bar leadership, this person must be fully capable of performing all standard butler and waitering duties. When one of the partner Butler/Waiters is on leave, the Bar Steward / Butler will stand in as a butler, including meal service, guest hosting, and daily guest interaction. Lead all bar operations with confidence, professionalism, and strong guest engagement. Prepare and serve coffees, cocktails, wines, spirits, and lodge standard beverages. Drive drink sales through personality, product knowledge, and guest interaction. Host wine tastings, food and wine pairings, themed drink evenings, and other creative beverage experiences. Control bar stock, monitor usage, and report low stock promptly. Execute regular stock takes with high accuracy and maintain organised storage. Ensure bar areas remain clean, well presented, and fully stocked. Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and beverage presentation. Accurately operate the POS system, process all sales, and complete end‑of‑shift tasks including reconciliations, reports, and accurate record‑keeping of all supporting slips. Assist with meal service, table setup, clearing, and resetting. Deliver warm, attentive, and professional service throughout all dining experiences. Support the kitchen team during busy periods to protect service flow. Ensure dining areas remain clean, organised, and guest ready at all times. Welcome guests on arrival and conduct room and lodge orientation tours. Communicate guest requests promptly and accurately to all relevant departments. Manage guest schedules, activity times, and daily flow. Assist with guest activities and ensure smooth coordination. Maintain a warm, confident, and engaging presence throughout the guest stay. Step in during crises or high pressure moments (urgent turn downs, room resets, guest requests). Maintain a team first attitude to ensure seamless guest service. Anticipate guest needs and act proactively to protect the overall experience. Support the other two butlers when needed. Assist other departments to maintain smooth lodge operations. The lodge is located within approximately 30km of Vaalwater, reached via a mostly rugged gravel road - successful candidates must be able to arrange their own transport for days off and personal errands. This is a remote, on‑site living position with single accommodation; candidates must be comfortable living in a quiet, rural environment. Due to the nature of the accommodation and operational requirements: family, children and pets cannot be accommodated. Must have access to Whatsapp video / Zoom / Microsoft Teams for initial interviews. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an in‑person interview at the property.
