Job Description
The Associate Engineer plays a vital role in supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure within the organisation. This position focuses on delivering technical solutions aligned with business requirements, ensuring reliable and efficient IT systems. The role involves collaborating with senior engineers and stakeholders to develop technical architecture designs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Duties
- Implement and configure network infrastructure components according to established designs and standards.
- Assist in the development and review of technical architecture designs to support business objectives.
- Conduct troubleshooting and resolve network-related issues promptly to minimise downtime.
- Participate in system testing, validation, and deployment activities to ensure successful project delivery.
- Maintain accurate documentation for network configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Support ongoing maintenance and upgrades of IT systems to enhance performance and security.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of technical solutions with organisational goals.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies and industry best practises relevant to network infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Education
- Completed formal education in Computer Engineering or equivalent qualification recognised by the relevant authorities.

Experience
- Demonstrable experience in network infrastructure implementation within a professional IT environment.
- Exposure to technical architecture design and practical application of network solutions.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of network protocols, hardware, and software components.
- Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Ability to interpret and develop technical documentation and diagrams.
- Effective problem-solving skills with a focus on timely resolution of technical issues.
- Clear communication skills for interaction with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with IT security principles and best practises.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications related to networking and infrastructure (e.g., Cisco Certified Network Associate or equivalent).
- Experience working within the IT and Internet sector in Southern Africa or similar markets.
- Knowledge of cloud-based networking solutions and virtualisation technologies.
Working Conditions
- Office-based role located in Gaborone, with occasional visits to project sites as required.
- Standard full-time working hours, with flexibility to manage project deadlines.
- Work involves use of computer systems and network equipment in a controlled environment.
