Maintenance Assistant (with Refrigeration Experience) Location: Cavalli Wine Estate, Stellenbosch Cavalli Wine Estate is seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Assistant with refrigeration experience to join our maintenance team. This position is ideal for a technically minded individual who takes pride in maintaining high standards, enjoys problem-solving, and can work independently while supporting the smooth operation of a world-class wine estate. Key Responsibilities General Maintenance Conduct technical inspections and complete maintenance checklists accurately. Perform safety and functionality inspections on farm equipment, tools, vehicles, buildings, and infrastructure. Carry out repairs, maintenance, and adjustments to ensure all systems remain operational. Assist with plumbing, painting, electrical work (under instruction), carpentry, paving, cement work, tiling, landscaping, welding, mechanical repairs, and other maintenance-related tasks. Maintain accurate records of tool and equipment usage, consumables, and spare parts. Conduct inventory checks and report shortages of tools, consumables, and spares. Ensure proper care, maintenance, and safe use of all tools and equipment. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment. Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the correct use of PPE. Act as a safety representative and assist in promoting safe working practices. Refrigeration Maintenance Inspect; service, and maintain refrigeration and cooling systems across the estate. Diagnose and repair faults in refrigeration units and related equipment. Conduct performance testing and ensure compliance with temperature and energy efficiency standards. Monitor refrigerant levels and perform safe refrigerant refilling or replacement when required. Maintain detailed service, inspection, and repair records for refrigeration systems. Requirements Previous experience in a maintenance role with refrigeration experience. Technical aptitude with practical skills in: Refrigeration systems Plumbing Electrical maintenance Carpentry Welding Mechanical repairs General building maintenance Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues efficiently. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Professional and respectful approach when interacting with colleagues and guests. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, and be available for after-hours call-outs when required. Valid driver's licence will be advantageous.
