Job Summary
A Teacher’s Assistant at a luxury 5-star game lodge in the Kruger National Park supports the resident teacher in providing educational care and supervision for children living at or visiting the lodge. The role combines classroom assistance, child development support, and adaptability to a remote hospitality environment. Duties and Responsibilities Assist the lead teacher with daily classroom activities and lesson preparation Support children with reading, writing, numeracy, and learning exercises Supervise learners during lessons, break times, outings, and activities Prepare educational materials, stationery, and classroom resources Maintain a safe, clean, organised, and child-friendly learning environment Assist with arts, crafts, educational games, and outdoor learning activities Provide one-on-one support to children requiring additional attention Help manage classroom behaviour and encourage positive discipline Support nature-based and environmental education activities linked to safari lodge life Monitor and report learner progress or concerns to the teacher Assist with school administration and record keeping where required Communicate professionally with parents, lodge management, and staff Occasionally assist with children’s entertainment or family guest activities during peak periods Ensure adherence to child safety and safeguarding standards Adapt to live-in lodge conditions and flexible working schedules Qualifications and Requirements Grade 12 / Matric certificate Teacher’s Assistant qualification, Educare certificate, or Early Childhood Development (ECD) qualification advantageous Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, tutoring, or educational environment Passion for child development and education Good communication and interpersonal skills Strong organisational and classroom management abilities Ability to work independently and within a small remote team Patient; caring, energetic, and adaptable personality Computer literacy (MS Office and basic educational software) First Aid certification advantageous Valid driver’s license beneficial Willingness to live and work in a remote bush environment Skills and Personal Attributes Friendly and nurturing nature High level of responsibility and reliability Creativity and enthusiasm Strong teamwork skills Flexibility and adaptability Attention to detail Ability to remain calm under pressure Professional appearance and conduct Typical Working Environment Luxury safari or game lodge setting Live-in position with accommodation and meals often included Small classroom groups with personalised attention Remote bush environment with flexible hospitality hours Interaction with both lodge staff families and guest children
