Overview: The child in question is a sweet, inquisitive and energetic little girl. We are seeking somebody to spend time with her in the mornings before school and in the afternoons, as well as accompany her to her extra-curricular activities. The family is seeking full time support as both parents are working professionals.
Main Purpose of the job: In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on this little girl’s development. Your responsibilities will include assisting with planning activities with her, building a relationship based on acceptance and trust, and getting to know her special interests and learning how to engage with her. Collaboration with her teachers and multidisciplinary team is necessary, to implement individualized strategies for her that are supportive of her own individual needs. A suitable candidate would be interested in growing their understanding of her neurodevelopmental profile and related differences and challenges. A special interest and passion in supporting neurodivergent individuals is of utmost importance.
Job Objectives:
· To collaborate with a team to support the child’s needs and to carry over skills learnt in therapies.
· To step in when the parents need extra support
· To accompany the child to extra-mural activities.
· To accompany the family on occasional outings and or holidays.
· To provide support and companionship to the child to enrich her days
· To understand, accommodate and alleviate her sensory difficulties.
· Experience working with children, particularly those that are neurodivergent.
· Experience in neurodivergence and autism spectrum disorder are advantageous
· An understanding of the PDA profile of Autism would be ideal
· Fluent in English
· Punctuality
· Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable car (a vehicle will be provided for use during work hours).
· A gentle and kind approach to working with children, whilst remaining firm in boundaries is essential.
· Knowledge of childhood development would be advantageous
· Knowledge of working from a child-led approach is essential
· Availability Monday to Friday, from approximately 6h00 to 18h00, as well as some Saturdays from 08h00 to 14h00, and the occasional public holiday.
· Ability to commit to the role long term.
There will be an opportunity to be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy when the role commences, and support sessions are provided for one month thereafter, working in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team based at the Neurodiversity Centre.
