Job Summary
In order to be considered the following is required:
- Matric certificate (Grade 12) – essential
- IT qualification highly recommended (N+ and A+ preferred)
- At least 1–2 years’ experience in the IT field
- Solid understanding of Windows networking
- Technical support experience is advantageous
- Strong problem-solving skills and technical troubleshooting abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English required, additional languages beneficial)
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
- Valid driver’s licence – essential
- Willingness to travel extensively and work irregular hours
- Flexibility to work 2–3 weekends per month on standby
Skills:
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of wireless network hardware, software, network operating systems and security protocols
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify, diagnose and resolve network issues effectively
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to document issues, provide technical support and train users and colleagues
- Analytical Skills: Ability to collect and analyse data to evaluate network performance and identify areas for improvement
- Physical Capability: Willingness to perform physical tasks like lifting equipment and working in various environments
Responsibilities:
- Installation and Configuration: Set up and configure wireless devices such as routers, access points and antennas
- Site Surveys and Optimization: Conduct surveys to analyse signal strength and coverage, then optimize the wireless environment for maximum efficiency
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve network issues, perform routine maintenance and apply necessary updates and patches to keep systems running smoothly
- Upgrades and Enhancements: Implement upgrades to wireless systems to improve performance and support the introduction of new wireless technologies
- Technical Support: Provide support to end-users, diagnose and resolve network-related problems and offer guidance on best practices for network usage
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed records of all installations, repairs, maintenance activities and system changes
- Security: Implement and maintain network security protocols, manage security software and monitor for rogue devices to protect network integrity
- Collaboration: Work with other technicians, engineers, and IT staff to design, implement and enhance network solutions
