Role Overview The Senior Chef is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, ensuring the consistent preparation and delivery of high-quality meals. This role requires strong leadership, culinary expertise, and the ability to manage kitchen staff, maintain food safety standards, and contribute to menu development. The Senior Chef plays a critical role in upholding the culinary standards and reputation of the cafe. Key Responsibilities · Kitchen Operations Management · Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure efficiency and consistency. · Ensure all food is prepared and presented according to established standards. · Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times. · Food Preparation and Quality Control · Prepare, cook, and present dishes in line with menu specifications. · Monitor food quality, taste, and presentation to ensure excellence. · Implement and enforce food safety and hygiene regulations. · Team Leadership and Supervision · Supervise and guide kitchen staff, ensuring effective teamwork. · Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to junior staff. · Delegate tasks appropriately to ensure smooth kitchen operations. · Menu Planning and Development · Contribute to menu creation, innovation, and seasonal updates. · Standardise recipes and ensure consistency in food preparation. · Monitor food trends and introduce new ideas where appropriate. · Inventory and Cost Control · Manage stock levels and oversee ordering of supplies. · Ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients. · Control food costs, minimise waste, and maintain budget targets. · Health and Safety Compliance · Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations. · Conduct regular checks to maintain cleanliness and food safety standards. Required Skills and Competencies · Strong culinary expertise and knowledge of cooking techniques · Leadership and team management skills · Excellent time management and organisational abilities · High attention to detail and quality standards · Strong communication and interpersonal skills · Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment · Relevant culinary qualification or equivalent experience · Proven experience in a professional kitchen, with leadership responsibilities · Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards The role also requires strong operational and financial awareness, ensuring that purchasing, stock control, and cost management are carefully monitored while maintaining exceptional quality and consistency.
