Country Hotel & Estate in the Rustenburg area is looking for an Assistant Maintenance Manager . The candidate will support the Maintenance Manager in ensuring the smooth; safe and efficient operation, maintenance and upkeep of the entire property. This is a large hospitality and wildlife property with accommodation; guest facilities, recreational areas, offices, staff facilities, infrastructure, landscaping and various operational areas . The successful candidate must therefore be a practical; hands-on all-rounder who is comfortable working across a wide range of maintenance requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience working with and leading a maintenance team ; be resourceful and solution-oriented ; and must not be afraid to get their hands dirty. This is a hands-on position requiring someone who can identify problems ; find practical solutions and assist the team in getting work completed to a high standard. Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, the successful candidate must be flexible and willing to be on call when required, particularly when maintenance emergencies or guest-related issues arise. Duties: Maintenance & Repairs: Assist the Maintenance Manager with the day-to-day management of all maintenance activities across the Estate. Carry out general maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance. Attend to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, tiling, building, mechanical and general maintenance requirements where competent to do so. Identify faults and maintenance requirements before they become major problems. Assist with repairs to guest rooms, chalets, offices, public areas, staff facilities and operational buildings. Maintain and repair doors, locks, windows, fixtures, fittings and furniture. Assist with water systems, pumps, geysers, tanks and related infrastructure. Assist with maintenance of swimming pools, water features and recreational facilities where required. Attend to urgent breakdowns and maintenance emergencies. Ensure maintenance work is completed properly, safely and within reasonable timeframes. Team Leadership & Supervision: Assist in supervising and coordinating the Maintenance Department. Allocate daily tasks to maintenance staff and ensure work is completed. Lead by example and be willing to work alongside the maintenance team. Monitor the quality and progress of maintenance work. Assist with managing staff attendance, punctuality and productivity. Provide guidance and practical assistance to team members. Encourage a positive, cooperative and accountable working environment. Report performance, disciplinary or operational concerns to the Maintenance Manager. Preventative Maintenance: Assist with implementing and maintaining a preventative maintenance programme. Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, facilities and infrastructure. Identify potential maintenance issues and recommend corrective action. Ensure maintenance schedules are followed. Keep records of completed maintenance and outstanding work. Assist in maintaining an up-to-date maintenance job card/work order system. Estate & Property Maintenance: Due to the size and nature of the Estate, the successful candidate must be comfortable working throughout the property and assisting with a wide variety of maintenance requirements. This may include: · Hotel and guest accommodation · Self-catering chalets · Staff accommodation and facilities · Offices · Restaurants and kitchen areas · Conference and event facilities · Swimming pools and recreational areas · Roads, walkways and public areas · Water and irrigation infrastructure · Electrical infrastructure · Pumps and machinery · Fencing, gates and access points · General buildings and structures · Camp and activity areas · Estate infrastructure and facilities · Stock, Tools & Equipment Assist with controlling maintenance tools, equipment and consumables. Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and stored correctly. Monitor maintenance stock levels. Inform the Maintenance Manager when materials or spare parts are required. Assist with preventing unnecessary wastage, damage or loss of tools and materials. Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and responsibly. Contractors & Suppliers: Assist the Maintenance Manager in supervising contractors working on the property. Ensure contractors follow Estate rules and safety requirements. Monitor the quality of contractor work. Assist with obtaining quotations and sourcing materials where required. Build and maintain good working relationships with reliable suppliers and service providers. Guest & Hospitality Support: Respond promptly to maintenance issues affecting guests. Assist with urgent guest-room maintenance requirements. Ensure maintenance issues are handled professionally and with minimal disruption to guests. Understand that maintenance directly affects the guest experience and reputation of the Estate. Communicate professionally with management, staff, guests and contractors. Emergency & After-Hours Duties: Hospitality operations continue outside normal office hours. The successful candidate must therefore be prepared to: · Participate in an after-hours/on-call maintenance arrangement. · Respond to genuine maintenance emergencies when required. · Assist with urgent breakdowns affecting guests, staff or operations. · Be available during weekends, public holidays or outside normal working hours when operationally required, subject to the applicable employment conditions and company arrangements. Remain calm and solution-focused during emergencies. Requirements: A trade qualification or formal technical qualification Previous experience in a maintenance position. Experience working with and/or supervising a maintenance team. Good practical knowledge of general property maintenance. Ability to perform hands-on maintenance work. Experience in a hospitality, hotel, lodge, resort, estate, commercial property or similar environment would be highly advantageous. Ability to troubleshoot and identify maintenance problems. Valid driver's licence. Good communication skills. Ability to work independently without constant supervision. Ability to work as part of a team. Willingness to live on the property. Willingness to be on call when required.
