Introduction

A leading engineering and automation organisation is seeking a highly skilled Field Engineer to provide technical field services at Kolomela Mine. The role focuses on control systems, advanced instrumentation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and supporting mining operations with high‑demand automation solutions.

The ideal candidate has strong engineering experience, advanced control systems knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a high‑pressure mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Support

• Technical Maintenance — Perform routine and moderately complex maintenance and repairs on control systems

• Troubleshooting — Diagnose and resolve issues related to control systems and components

• Client Engineering Support — Communicate with engineers on site regarding technical specifications and queries

• After‑Hours Support — Provide in‑person or telephonic support when required

• Technical Input — Supply technical details for quotations, work scopes, parts and costing

• Documentation — Complete service reports, time tracking and expense documentation

• Tool Management — Maintain tools and test equipment

• Internal Communication — Update account managers and sales personnel on job status and customer queries

• Training Support — Identify and assist with training needs

• Quality Compliance — Ensure all work meets company standards and ISO requirements

Safety

• Safety Procedures — Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate PPE

• Safe Work Environment — Maintain a clean, neat and safe work area

• Safe Equipment Use — Operate and maintain equipment safely

Qualifications & Experience

• Engineering qualification (Diploma or equivalent)

• Instrumentation / Electrical / Auto‑Electrical Trade Test

• 5 years engineering experience in instrumentation, field service or similar industrial environment

• Strong background in automation and advanced instrumentation systems

• Mining, metals or automation industry experience (preferred)

• Experience on opencast drills or shovels (highly advantageous)

• 3 years management experience

• Project management experience

• Advanced experience with communication protocols: Modbus, Canbus, Ethernet

• Advanced experience with control systems: Field instruments, I/Os

• Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and fault finding

• Advanced experience with HMI systems

• Knowledge of ABB or Siemens programmable devices (advantageous)

• Registered with ECSA as Professional Engineer or Technologist (advantageous)
