Job Summary
A Bartender at a luxury 5-star game lodge is responsible for providing exceptional beverage service to guests while creating a memorable hospitality experience. The role involves preparing and serving drinks, maintaining bar standards, managing stock, and delivering professional guest service in line with luxury lodge standards. Key Duties & Responsibilities Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests Mix cocktails, mocktails, coffees, and specialty drinks according to lodge standards Provide exceptional guest service and interact professionally with local and international guests Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards of the bar area at all times Ensure glasses, garnishes, and bar equipment are clean and properly maintained Conduct daily stock counts and assist with beverage stock control Monitor beverage levels and report shortages to management Ensure correct billing and processing of guest tabs and payments Upsell premium beverages, wines, cocktails, and lodge experiences Assist with wine service during meals where required Set up and break down bar stations before and after service Follow all health, safety, and liquor licensing regulations Handle guest complaints or requests professionally and efficiently Assist during bush dinners, boma evenings, special events, and functions Maintain knowledge of wines, spirits, cocktails, and beverage trends Work closely with the Food & Beverage and kitchen teams to ensure smooth service Required Qualifications Grade 12 / Matric Bartending or Hospitality qualification advantageous Cocktail or mixology certification beneficial Wine knowledge or wine service training advantageous Experience Required Minimum 2–3 years’ bartending experience in a 4-star or 5-star lodge, hotel, or restaurant Luxury hospitality experience preferred Experience serving international guests advantageous Knowledge of fine wines, premium spirits, and cocktails preferred Skills & Competencies Excellent customer service and communication skills Strong cocktail-making and beverage preparation skills Professional appearance and grooming Friendly; outgoing, and guest-focused personality Ability to work under pressure in busy service periods Good numerical and cash-handling skills Attention to detail and cleanliness Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and split shifts Knowledge of responsible alcohol service Systems & Technical Skills POS system experience advantageous Basic stock control and inventory knowledge Understanding of beverage costing and stock rotation beneficial Typical Responsibilities in a Luxury Game Lodge Environment Sundowner drink service during safari activities Bush bar and boma setup Poolside beverage service Assisting with special guest celebrations and private dining events Personalized guest interaction and luxury service delivery
