The Lodge Manager and Lodge Anchor couple oversee the daily operations and overall guest experience within a luxury safari lodge in the Madikwe region. This role requires effective leadership, operational management, and a strong presence on site to ensure that all aspects of the lodge function smoothly and guests receive an exceptional standard of service. The position demands hands-on involvement in guest relations, staff supervision, financial management, and maintenance of health and safety standards. Job Duties
Manage all lodge operations to maintain high standards of guest service, accommodation, food and beverage, and activities. Act as the primary point of contact for guests, ensuring a personalised and memorable experience through attentive service and prompt resolution of any issues. Lead; motivate, and train all lodge staff to foster a positive work environment and encourage professional development. Monitor and manage the lodge’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and controlling costs without compromising quality. Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, including risk assessments and emergency procedures. Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and external stakeholders to maintain lodge facilities and services at optimum levels. Implement and maintain operational policies and procedures to guarantee consistency and efficiency across all departments. Support marketing and promotional activities to enhance the lodge’s reputation and attract new clientele. Coordinate logistics for guest arrivals, departures and excursions, ensuring smooth transitions and excellent communication. Maintain accurate records relating to bookings, guest preferences, maintenance schedules and staff performance. Serve as an ambassador for the lodge and the region, promoting sustainable tourism and conservation efforts. Work collaboratively as a couple to provide a stable and consistent presence on site, sharing responsibilities to optimise operational effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience in lodge or hotel management within the tourism or hospitality sector, preferably in a safari or remote location setting. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a diverse team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Solid financial acumen and experience managing budgets and financial reports. Competence in health and safety regulations and best practises. Ability to adapt to a remote working environment and manage logistical challenges effectively. Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Education
A minimum of a diploma or degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
Experience
At least five years’ experience in a senior operational role within the hospitality or tourism industry. Previous experience managing a lodge, safari camp, or similar establishment in a rural or remote area is highly advantageous. Experience working as part of a management couple or team is beneficial.
Knowledge and Skills
In-depth knowledge of lodge operations, guest services, and hospitality standards. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure. Proficiency with booking and property management systems. Good understanding of local culture, conservation principles, and sustainable tourism practises. Organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively. Competence in basic maintenance and facility management is an advantage. Ability to build rapport with guests and local communities alike.
Preferred Qualifications
Formal certification in first aid or emergency response. Additional language skills relevant to the region or international clientele. Training or certification in environmental management or eco-tourism. Experience in marketing or guest relations within the travel and tourism sector.
Working Conditions
This role is based in a remote safari lodge in the North West province requiring on-site residence. Working hours are full-time and may include weekends, public holidays, early mornings, and late evenings to accommodate guest needs and lodge activities. The environment involves outdoor conditions and variable weather; flexibility and physical stamina are necessary. The role demands close collaboration with a partner to share responsibilities and maintain a consistent presence. Occasional travel to nearby towns or regional offices may be required. 6 weekss on 2 weeks off
