Job Summary
The Cost & Management Accountant is responsible for overseeing project financial performance, ensuring accurate costing, reporting, and analysis across multiple entities. This role plays a key part in supporting strategic decision-making by providing insights into project profitability, cost control, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and report on project profitability
- Prepare project-specific balance sheets and income statements
- Analyse financial statements and performance of individual projects
- Perform job costing across multiple entities
- Create and maintain job codes, ensuring adherence to internal processes
- Monitor and audit site hours worked against revenue generated
- Conduct expense and variance analysis, highlighting inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure accurate and timely project accruals on a monthly basis
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date project records and tracking systems
- Oversee timely invoicing following the approval of contract certificates
- Assist with forecasting project revenues and financial performance
- Support the maintenance of asset registers
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaise with Quantity Surveyors and Site Managers to address audit queries and findings
- Collaborate with Project Managers to assess project viability and financial performance
- Provide insights to influence management decisions on project acceptance, continuation, or termination
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure efficient use of on-site resources and highlight discrepancies
Reporting & Analysis:
- Generate and present costing reports at group level
- Provide clear financial insights to support business understanding of costs and profitability
- Ensure all projects are effectively tracked and aligned with financial targets
Requirements:
- BCom in Accounting, Finance, CIMA or related field
- 3–5 years’ experience in cost and management accounting (project environment advantageous)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP/accounting systems preferred
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
