Senior BI Developer – Qlik Sense / QlikView / Azure Synapse

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior BI Developer to support a large-scale Business Intelligence modernisation programme in South Africa.

The successful candidate will play a key role in modernising the client's existing BI environment, including the migration of QlikView applications and QVD-based data logic to Qlik Sense and Azure Synapse.

The role requires strong hands-on experience across Qlik development, SQL, data modelling, ETL/ELT, cloud analytics and BI performance optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and perform migration of QlikView applications, models, scripts, dashboards and business logic to Qlik Sense.
  

• Analyse existing QlikView scripts and QVD-based processes and define appropriate migration approaches.
  

• Design and develop interactive, scalable and high-performance Qlik Sense dashboards.
  

• Transition QVD-based data processing and business logic to Azure Synapse.
  

• Design and develop ELT/ETL pipelines using Azure Synapse Pipelines.
  

• Integrate new enterprise data sources into existing and new data structures.
  

• Design scalable and high-performance analytical data models.
  

• Develop complex SQL queries and perform SQL performance tuning.
  

• Optimise queries, aggregations, partitioning, indexing and data processing.
  

• Implement Row-Level Security and Role-Based Access Control.
  

• Support data governance and data security requirements.
  

• Perform unit testing, system testing and data reconciliation.
  

• Monitor and troubleshoot dashboard performance, data refresh and dataset issues.
  

• Participate in user playback sessions and support business validation.
  

• Collaborate with Data Architecture and Data Governance teams.
  

• Translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  

• Document dashboard logic, data models, transformation rules and technical processes.
  

• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to other BI developers.
  

• Support production incidents, SQL optimisation requests and BI enhancements.
  

Contract Details

Employment Type: Contract

Contract Duration: Minimum 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

Location: South Africa.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid / Remote / On-site, depending on project requirements.

Rate: Negotiable based on experience and expertise.

Essential Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant BI development experience.
  

• Strong hands-on Qlik Sense development experience.
  

• Strong hands-on QlikView development experience.
  

• Proven experience migrating QlikView applications to Qlik Sense.
  

• Strong Qlik scripting experience.
  

• Strong experience working with QVD-based data architectures.
  

• Strong Azure Synapse Analytics experience.
  

• Experience developing Azure Synapse Pipelines.
  

• Strong ETL/ELT experience.
  

• Advanced SQL development skills.
  

• Strong SQL performance tuning and query optimisation experience.
  

• Experience with partitioning, indexing and aggregation strategies.
  

• Strong data modelling experience.
  

• Experience integrating multiple enterprise data sources.
  

• Experience developing enterprise BI dashboards.
  

• Experience with data reconciliation and validation.
  

• Experience implementing RLS and RBAC.
  

• Understanding of data governance and security frameworks.
  

• Experience supporting production BI environments.
  

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
