To design, configure, deploy, maintain, and support SAP MM solutions aligned with business process requirements in the area of Materials Management. The Solution Specialist ensures SAP MM functionality supports procurement, inventory management, and logistics operations effectively and evolves with business needs. This role ensures system stability, integration with related modules and platforms, and contributes to business continuity and innovation.
The Solution Specialist is an Information Technology employee that is responsible for understanding the business process requirements for certain functions in the business and for the design, configuration, deployment and maintenance of system-based solutions that will meet the needs of the business client.
These employees configure new system functionality, but they are also responsible for maintaining, updating and troubleshooting existing system functionality. The main focus for Solution Specialists is the SAP system, and in some instances the Clients global systems and other local systems.
This job forms part of the Information Technology division and job incumbents work across several teams aligned to business functions. The work that these employees perform has an impact on business continuity.
Resource in this team will report to Senior Manager IT: Solutions for a specific area of focus.
Engage with procurement, logistics, and supply chain teams to gather and validate MM-related system requirements.
Analyse existing SAP MM configurations, business processes, and workflows to identify gaps and opportunities.
Collaborate on Business Requirement Specifications (BRS) and assess system impact for proposed changes.
Translate business requirements into SAP MM functional solutions and integrations with other modules (e.g., SD, FI, WM).
Design and document process flows, data models, and business logic using SAP best practices.
Prepare Functional and Technical Specifications to support solution development.
Configure SAP MM system components including:
Procurement (purchase requisitions, purchase orders, contracts)
Inventory Management (goods movements, stock types)
Material Master Data
Valuation and Account Determination
External Services Management
Ensure configuration aligns with global templates and local regulatory requirements.
Support custom development requirements by working with SAP developers.
Ensure integration with related SAP modules (e.g., FI, SD, PP) and external systems.
Prepare and execute testing plans (unit, integration, UAT).
Support issue resolution and system validation through each test phase.
Coordinate roll-out of SAP MM enhancements and projects.
Prepare end-user training materials and conduct system training sessions.
Support go-live activities and ensure system readiness and user competence.
Provide 2nd and 3rd level SAP MM support.
Investigate and resolve incidents, bugs, and system performance issues.
Monitor usage, suggest system/process improvements, and manage enhancement backlogs.
Act as the liaison between IT and business stakeholders for SAP MM topics.
Maintain regular engagement with business teams to anticipate needs and deliver proactive support.
Provide regular status updates and manage stakeholder expectations.
Lead or support SAP MM-related projects and enhancements.
Track milestones, manage risks and escalate issues appropriately.
Coordinate with cross-functional project teams and ensure alignment to project goals.
Share SAP MM expertise with IT colleagues and users.
Contribute to internal knowledge bases and standard operating procedures.
Participate in team meetings, workshops, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Accurate and business-aligned SAP MM configurations and solutions.

SAP MM Module Certification (essential).
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
8–10 years total IT or business systems experience.
At least 8 years of relevant SAP MM configuration and implementation experience.
Experience in the automotive or manufacturing industry is highly advantageous.
Hands-on experience in:
Full-cycle SAP MM implementations
MM master data management
Integration with other SAP modules (FI, SD, WM)
Procurement automation and vendor management
Inventory and warehouse processes
SAP ECC or S/4HANA MM module expertise
Deep knowledge of MM configuration, customisation, and integration points
Experience with debugging and working with ABAP teams
Working knowledge of workflow, IDoc, and interface monitoring
Testing tools (e.g., HP ALM, JIRA) and MS Office Suite proficiency
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
