Job Summary
A leading private hospital group is looking for a strategic and commercially astute Chief People Officer (CPO) to join their team in Johannesburg, GP to lead and transform the organisation’s people function. This executive leadership role is responsible for developing and executing an integrated people strategy that supports organisational growth, operational excellence, workforce capability, and a high-performance culture across the Group.
The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Executive Committee (EXCO), and Board, ensuring that HR strategy aligns with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and long-term organisational sustainability.
Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Leadership
- Develop and execute the Group People Strategy aligned to business objectives.
- Lead workforce planning, succession planning, talent management, and organisational development initiatives.
- Provide strategic HR leadership to EXCO and senior leadership teams.
- Drive organisational effectiveness, employee engagement, and culture transformation.
- Establish and oversee HR governance frameworks, policies, and systems.
Human Capital Management - Oversee recruitment, retention, learning and development, performance management, rewards, and employee relations.
- Ensure streamlined HR processes and systems that empower employees across all levels.
- Lead initiatives that build leadership capability and high-performing teams.
- Drive diversity, inclusion, and fair people practices across the organisation.
Risk, Governance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation, corporate governance standards, and audit requirements.
- Identify and mitigate people-related operational and financial risks.
- Implement integrated risk management and reporting frameworks within HR.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with business leaders to optimise organisational performance.
- Support effective communication and change management across the Group.
- Engage with labour unions, service providers, and external partners where required.
Financial and Operational Oversight
- Manage HR budgets and resource allocation effectively.
- Monitor and report on HR performance metrics and business outcomes.
- Ensure cost efficiencies while supporting strategic growth objectives
Leadership Responsibilities
The CPO will lead a multidisciplinary HR team, including:
- Group Human Resources Business Partner
- Group Talent Manager
- Group Employee Relations Manager (Outsourced Function)
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, or equivalent
- Advantageous - MBA
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar environment
- 3–5 years’ experience in a senior management role
- Experience within private healthcare operations will be advantageou
