Job Summary
Overview Our client, an established manufacturing operation in Johannesburg South, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to take full ownership of the reliability function at a plant that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is a critical, high end appointment where the successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert for the site while leading and developing an existing maintenance team. The role reports to the Operations Manager and carries exposure to group executive level. Key Responsibilities • Take full ownership of the reliability function across all electromechanical equipment on site. • Act as the subject matter expert for the team while still managing and leveraging the people within it. • Lead fault finding activities and carry out structured root cause analysis on breakdowns and recurring failures. • Record what each problem was and how it will be prevented from recurring, ensuring the findings are shared and applied. • Analyse equipment trends and performance data to get to the true root cause of issues rather than the symptoms. • Source spares and build an accurate view of expected machine run time and the parts required to support it. • Build the site reliability budget on a zero based approach rather than relying only on historic figures. • Include a realistic breakdown budget within the overall site budget and track spend against it. • Manage a team of between 10 and 20 people, including a stores person, a planner and approximately eight millwrights and electrical staff. • Handle the administrative side of the reliability function, including planning, reporting and record keeping. • Maintain proper documentation and keep accurate records of all maintenance and reliability activity. • Work day to day with production managers, millwrights and operators on the plant floor. • Report into the Operations Manager and engage with group executive level on reliability performance and spend. • Work shifts as required to support a continuous 24 hour, seven day operation. Requirements • A mechanical, electrical or millwright background, with the ability to think like an engineer across electromechanical equipment. • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis ability. • Working knowledge of pneumatics. • Budgeting ability, including zero based budgeting. • Proven ability to manage and leverage a team while remaining the technical subject matter expert. • Comfortable engaging at CEO and CFO level as well as with production managers, millwrights and operators. • Strong documentation and record keeping discipline, including spares sourcing and planning. • Willing and able to work shifts on a plant that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Benefits and Compensation Our client is offering a cost to company package of R 70 000 to R 110 000 per month, depending on experience. • Pure cost to company structure, with no separate benefits added on top of the package. • 15 leave days per annum. • A critical, high visibility role with direct exposure to group executive level.
