Job Summary We are seeking an experienced, organised, and proactive Operations and Equipment Hiring Manager to oversee daily operational efficiency and manage the full lifecycle of equipment hiring for our catering, events, and support operations. This critical role combines strong operational oversight with the management of equipment procurement, rental, maintenance, inventory control, and logistics to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality events, functions, and daily services while maintaining strict Halaal compliance and cost efficiency. Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day operations across kitchen, butchery, logistics, and event execution to ensure smooth, timely, and efficient service delivery. Manage the company’s equipment hiring portfolio (chairs, tables, crockery, cutlery, glassware, linen, chafing dishes, urns, tents, marquees, generators, fridges, freezers, cooking equipment, etc.). Source; negotiate, and maintain relationships with reliable equipment suppliers and rental companies. Plan; schedule, and coordinate equipment requirements for all events, functions, weddings, corporate catering, and daily operations. Conduct regular equipment inventory audits, condition checks, repairs, and replacements to minimise downtime and losses. Ensure all hired and owned equipment meets food safety, hygiene, and Halaal standards (proper cleaning, sanitisation, and segregation protocols). Develop and maintain accurate records for equipment usage, hire agreements, invoices, packing slips, and delivery notes – ensuring 100% completion as per company policy. Manage equipment logistics: loading, transport, setup, collection, and return of equipment for events. Collaborate closely with the Kitchen Manager, Butchery Supervisor, Events Team, and Drivers on resource planning and Food Setup Sheets. Control operational costs, including equipment hire fees, maintenance, transport, and labour related to operations. Implement and enforce SOPs for equipment handling, storage, cleaning, and maintenance. Monitor staff performance in operations and equipment handling, providing training and applying disciplinary measures when required. Support event site inspections, risk assessments, and post-event reviews. Prepare monthly operations and equipment reports for management, including utilisation rates, costs, and recommendations for improvement. Requirements & Qualifications Education & Certification Diploma or Degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Hospitality Management, or related field (essential). Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport. Experience Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in operations management within catering, events, hospitality, or logistics. At least 2–3 years’ hands-on experience managing equipment hire, rental, and inventory in an events or catering environment. Proven track record in cost control, supplier negotiation, and large-scale event coordination. Skills & Competencies Strong organisational and project management skills with excellent attention to detail. Solid understanding of event equipment needs and logistics in the South African market. Negotiation and supplier relationship management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel for inventory tracking) and basic inventory/ERP systems. Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and compliance requirements. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple events simultaneously. Leadership and team management capabilities.
