The Senior Safari Consultant is a senior revenue-generating position responsible for designing, selling, and delivering bespoke, high-value safari journeys across Southern and East Africa.
This role requires strong commercial acumen, advanced destination knowledge, independent itinerary planning skills, and the ability to confidently close sales while delivering an exceptional luxury client experience.
The consultant owns each client journey end-to-end — from enquiry through to post-travel follow-up — while contributing strategically to supplier partnerships, product development, and continuous operational improvement.
Independently design, cost, and present bespoke safari itineraries.
Translate client briefs into well-paced, seasonally aligned journeys.
Confidently close sales and manage objections.
Take full ownership of sales pipeline and conversions.
Maintain long-term repeat and referral relationships.
Ensure trip files are accurately closed and documented.
Maintain expert-level knowledge of lodges, regions, activities, and logistics.
Provide informed, experience-based recommendations.
Stay current with new properties, renovations, and supplier updates.
Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and mentor junior consultants where required.
Demonstrate proficiency in Safari Portal and internal reservation systems.
Create and manage bookings accurately and in line with SOPs.
Maintain daily updates of booking status and client progress.
Proactively troubleshoot reservation issues.
Manage guest folders within the BHS database.
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships (lodges, DMCs, airlines, transfer providers).
Negotiate STO and DMC rates where appropriate.
Protect supplier relationships through responsible booking management.
Identify opportunities for preferred partnerships and value-add experiences.
Deliver high-touch service from enquiry to post-travel review.
Maintain response times (24-hour email / 2-hour WhatsApp during work hours).
Prepare polished itineraries, proposals, and safari packs.
Finalise all logistics prior to travel.
Provide 24/7 client support or ensure appropriate handover.
Conduct post-travel follow-ups and history updates.
Participate in rotational out-of-hours phone duty.
Provide team coverage during leave periods.
Contribute to SOP refinement and operational efficiency.
Act as a senior point of reference within the team.
3–5+ years’ experience in luxury travel or safari consulting.
Proven ability to independently plan and close complex itineraries.
Strong commercial awareness and negotiation ability.
Exceptional organisation and time-management skills.
High proficiency in booking systems, spreadsheets, and CRM tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
