ASSISTANT GUESTHOUSE MANAGER Oude Berg Guesthouse | George, Western Cape Full-time | Non-live-in position We are looking for a qualified and experienced Assistant Guesthouse Manager to join our team and assist with the day-to-day running of an established guesthouse. This is a hands-on operational position and would suit someone who has hospitality experience, enjoys working with both guests and staff, has a good eye for detail and is ready to take the next step in their hospitality career. The Assistant Manager will work closely with and report to the owners/directors and will be responsible for helping ensure that the guesthouse runs smoothly and maintains a consistently high standard. This position is best suited to someone currently working at assistant-manager or supervisory level ; rather than an established hotel General Manager looking for a senior executive-management position. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities will include: Assisting with the daily running of the guesthouse Supervising housekeeping and operational staff Allocating daily staff duties and monitoring work standards Conducting daily guest-room and property inspections Ensuring rooms are clean, correctly presented and ready for check-in Assisting guests with check-ins, requests and complaints Ensuring guests receive friendly and professional service Maintaining bookings and information on NightsBridge Completing daily occupancy and operational reports Monitoring staff attendance, leave and related records Reporting maintenance problems and following up until they are resolved Managing groceries, amenities, linen and cleaning stock Assisting with stock counts and maintaining accurate stock records Grocery and operational shopping as required Checking deliveries and keeping purchase documentation Managing petty cash, receipts and basic operational administration Assisting with supplier and debtor follow-ups Liaising with suppliers and contractors Assisting with staff recruitment, onboarding and training Monitoring staff performance and reporting concerns to management Monitoring guest feedback and online reviews Ensuring health, safety and guesthouse procedures are followed Reporting operational issues to the owners/directors MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Applicants must have: A formal qualification in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Tourism Management or a related hospitality field Relevant practical experience within a hotel, guesthouse, lodge or similar accommodation establishment Previous experience supervising or managing staff Experience dealing directly with guests Good administrative and organisational skills Good computer literacy Experience working with a property-management or accommodation booking system A valid driver's licence Experience with NightsBridge will be an advantage. Please note that both a relevant formal qualification and practical hospitality experience are requirements for this position . WHO WILL SUIT THIS POSITION? Because this is a hospitality role, working hours are structured around the operational needs of the guesthouse rather than conventional office hours. The Assistant Manager will need to be available during important periods including breakfast, room inspections and guest check-ins. The position includes regular weekends off, subject to proper operational handover and planning. REMUNERATION Remuneration will be based on the successful candidate's relevant qualifications, hospitality experience and level of responsibility and will be discussed during the recruitment process.
