Job Summary
The main function of the Network Cabling Technician is to install, troubleshoot, and maintain data cables and copper and fibre cabling infrastructure as per the standards of the organisations where they work.
Responsibilities will include:
• Assemble and arrange materials and equipment.
• Explain and verify service orders, drawings, specifications, particular needs, and instructions.
• Run, pull, stop, and splice copper and fibre optic cables, such as CAT5, SE, CAT6, low voltage cables, and fibre.
• Mount telecommunication equipment while adhering to best practices, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements.
• Aid in arranging routers.
• Install support structures, including racks, ladders, j-hooks, and switches, using data provided by tall teams within the organisation.
• Perform maintenance on existing cabling systems.
• Testing newly installed or relocated cables according to Company specifications.
• Identify and remove redundant cabling.
• Installation of routers and internet technology devices.
• Troubleshooting issues with a cable network.
• Ensuring all cables are neatly tied and bundled according to safety regulations.
Requirements
Qualifications:
• Completed Grade 12.
• Relevant Information Technology Certifications/Qualifications Experience.
• Splicing Certificate
• 4 to 5 Years of relevant technical experience in meeting the physical requirements.
Skills and Knowledge:
• Strong knowledge of mathematics, science, and electrical systems.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven work experience as a Cable Technician, who knows premises and outside plant fibre optic cables.
