Hospitality Hire is recruiting an experienced Sommelier for a luxury hotel in Cape Town . This is a guest-facing, service-driven role at the heart of the hotel’s Food & Beverage operation. The Sommelier plays a key role in enhancing the guest dining experience through expert wine knowledge, professional wine service, pairing recommendations, and effective cellar management. Key Responsibilities Wine Service & Guest Experience Deliver knowledgeable, engaging, and professional wine service to hotel guests Recommend wines and beverage pairings aligned with menus and guest preferences Educate guests on wine selections, regions, varietals, and vintages Upsell wines and premium beverages to enhance guest satisfaction and revenue Handle guest enquiries and feedback confidently and professionally Cellar & Beverage Management Assist with wine cellar management and stock control Ensure correct storage, rotation, serving temperatures, and glassware standards Support wine list development in collaboration with Food & Beverage management Assist with ordering, receiving, and stock management Monitor wastage, breakages, and stock variances Hotel Operations & Team Support Support restaurant, banqueting, conferencing, and event service where required Maintain luxury service standards across all Food & Beverage outlets Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and liquor legislation Assist in training service teams on wine knowledge and service standards Maintain professional presentation and conduct at all times Minimum Requirements Matric or equivalent qualification Proven experience as a Sommelier or senior wine service professional Experience within a 4 or 5-star hotel, luxury lodge, or fine-dining restaurant Strong knowledge of local and international wines Experience with wine pairing, upselling, and guest engagement WSET qualification or equivalent (advantageous) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays CV must be fully updated prior to submission Key Skills & Attributes Passion for wine, hospitality, and guest service excellence Confident; guest-focused communicator Strong attention to detail and service consistency Professional; polished, and well-presented Calm and composed under pressure Team player with a positive service mindset Why Apply Through Hospitality Hire Access to exclusive luxury hotel jobs Placement within a high-profile hotel environment Career growth opportunities within hospitality and Food & Beverage Competitive salary and employee benefits Support from a specialist hospitality recruitment agency Recruitment is aligned with the company’s Employment Equity Plan.
