We are looking for energetic and commercially minded graduates or early-career sales professionals who enjoy being in front of customers, building relationships and creating new business opportunities.
This is a hands-on, high-activity field sales role suited to someone who wants to develop a long-term career in sales. It is not a senior Key Account Management or Business Development Management position.
The successful candidates will manage a sizeable portfolio of approximately 120 existing customers while actively prospecting for and securing new business.
The role requires someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, target-driven environment and who enjoys spending time in the market. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 15 face-to-face customer visits per week while consistently working towards customer acquisition, revenue, shipment and retention targets.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Field Sales Executive will develop and administer field sales plans and processes to drive revenue growth, strengthen customer retention and acquisition, and improve lead conversion within an allocated geographic area, product line or market segment.
The role will operate in line with the company’s business strategy, financial objectives, operating guidelines, policies and service standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales Planning, Performance and Revenue Growth
Administer field sales plans and processes and provide input into sales forecasting, budgeting and related planning activities.
Deliver agreed sales objectives and revenue growth within the allocated geographic area, product line or market segment.
Manage and develop a portfolio of approximately 120 existing customers.
Complete a minimum of 15 face-to-face customer visits per week.
Generate at least four shipments per day to support sales-volume growth.
Maintain an active and healthy sales pipeline equivalent to at least 40% of the total portfolio revenue.
Secure a minimum of four first-time buyers or new customers per month.
Grow existing core business by generating repeat orders and identifying opportunities to introduce additional services.
Monitor sales performance and take proactive action where targets, customer volumes or revenue may be at risk.
New Business Development
Identify, research and contact prospective customers to generate new sales opportunities.
Build relationships with prospective customers to create future sales and repeat business.
Understand the nature, size and commercial requirements of each customer.
Recommend appropriate products, services or alternative solutions based on the customer’s needs.
Develop and deliver sales presentations, bids and proposals.
Conduct product or service demonstrations for customers where required.
Follow up with prospective customers, negotiate appropriate terms of sale and close business by matching customer needs with suitable company solutions.
Introduce relevant products and promotions to customers.
Support and implement marketing campaigns within the allocated customer base and territory.
Customer Relationship Management and Retention
Develop strong customer relationships by building rapport and trust.
Maintain a good understanding of each customer’s business, operating environment and market.
Remain in regular contact with customers to assess service satisfaction and strengthen customer retention.
Provide customers with relevant and useful information and introduce additional services where appropriate.
Ensure that monthly customer losses are kept as low as possible and do not exceed 10%.
Proactively identify risks to customer relationships, shipment volumes and revenue and intervene before business is lost.
Manage customer concerns and complaints promptly and in accordance with company procedures.
Work to resolve service issues and limit the potential loss of customers or revenue.
Confidently influence customers or other external parties who may initially be sceptical or unwilling to accept a proposal, including in situations where decision-making processes and standards are formally defined.
Internal Coordination and Sales Administration
Coordinate with internal sales, marketing, operations and service-management teams to support sales growth and customer retention.
Capture daily updates relating to customer visits, customer information, sales activity and other required information using the applicable CRM systems.
Maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date sales and customer records.
Assist with reasonable functions outside the immediate job description when required to ensure that the Sales Department operates effectively and efficiently and in accordance with company and network standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
Experience
A minimum of three years’ field sales experience within consumer, retail, B2B sales and/or marketing planning.
At least two years’ experience in a similar capacity, preferably within a medium-sized organisation operating in a related industry.
Experience within logistics, express courier, transport or freight forwarding would be advantageous.
Candidates from other high-activity, customer-facing sales environments will also be considered where they can demonstrate relevant field sales experience and a strong record of meeting targets.
Additional Requirements
A valid driver’s licence.
Strong numerical and analytical ability.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong spoken and written communication skills.
Confidence engaging with customers face to face.
The ability and willingness to work in a demanding field-based sales environment.
A strong interest in building a long-term career in B2B sales.

LOCATION
Cape Town, Western Cape
The position is field-based and requires regular face-to-face customer visits throughout the allocated territory.
