WatersEdge Solutions is partnering with a client to recruit an experienced COBOL Developer for an 18-month contract, starting as soon as possible. This opportunity is ideal for a strong mainframe developer with deep COBOL experience who can support critical legacy systems while also bringing exposure to modern integration environments.

About the Role

As COBOL Developer, you will work on core mainframe systems, supporting development, maintenance, batch processing, and online transaction workflows. The role requires strong COBOL, JCL, CICS, and database experience, with the opportunity to contribute to modernisation initiatives involving APIs, .NET, Azure, and SQL Server where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance COBOL applications
• Support JCL and batch processing workflows
• Work with CICS for online transaction processing
• Maintain and optimise DB2 and/or VSAM data interactions
• Troubleshoot and resolve mainframe application issues
• Support system testing, deployment, and production fixes
• Collaborate with technical teams on integration and modernisation work
• Document technical changes and maintain development standards

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of COBOL programming experience
• Strong proficiency in JCL and batch processing
• Experience with CICS online transaction processing
• Knowledge of DB2 and/or VSAM
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote contract environment
• Availability to start as soon as possible

Nice to Have

• Experience with Microsoft .NET, C#, or ASP.NET
• RESTful API development experience
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Functions, Azure App Services, and Logic Apps / Integration Services
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server
• Understanding of microservices architecture and service-oriented design
