Job Summary
A leading plastics manufacturing and packaging solutions company is looking for an experienced Industrial Designer with strong experience in injection moulded product design, concept development, and 3D modelling to join their innovative team in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have a passion for functional design, material optimisation, and translating ideas into practical, manufacturable plastic products.
Responsibilities:
Design and develop plastic products and packaging from concept through to production.
Create accurate 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and realistic renderings.
Collaborate with tooling engineers, production teams, and clients to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
Research materials, processes, and technologies relevant to plastics and packaging design.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of product performance, ergonomics, and sustainability.
Support prototype development and testing.
Present design proposals and participate in project reviews.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Industrial Design or a related field.
Proven experience in plastics or packaging product design, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar).
Understanding of injection moulding processes and tooling design principles.
Strong visualisation, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Portfolio demonstrating relevant design work in plastics or packaging.
