Quantity Surveyor: Electrical, Instrumentation & Mechanical

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join our Company. You will be responsible for the full quantity surveying function, including tendering and estimating, contract negotiation and administration, project financial and cost management, including procurement.
The Quantity Surveyor is expected to play a crucial role in securing new business opportunities and contributing to the growth of the company through successful project awards and profitable project execution. The role is expected to prepare accurate estimates and tenders for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. You will provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:- Tendering and Estimating:
- Risk Assessment: identify project risks, opportunities and constraints that may impact the tender or project.
- Estimation of materials, labour, equipment, etc for the execution of the project. Calculate labour costs, including required manpower based on speeds and norms.
- Prepare and compile all required documentation for tender submissions, such as technical bids, commercial bids/estimates, and compliance statements.
- Ensure compliance with tender submission deadlines and follow up with clients as needed.
- Pricing Strategy: Develop a pricing strategy that ensures competitiveness while maintaining profitability. This includes understanding market conditions and competitor pricing.
- Contract Administration: Manage and negotiate all contractual matters (e.g., NEC 3, FIDIC, GCC etc) and handle financial evaluations during tender adjudication. Compile all contractual notices i.e. early warnings, compensation notices (NCE’s) etc. Ensure that all contractual terms such as payment schedules, warranties and penalties are clearly defined and aligned with company policy.
- Site Support: Conduct accurate on-site measurements of quantities and materials. Prepare progress claims/certificates, Compile project close out reports including final measurements and all required contractual documentation.
- Financial Control and Cashflow Management: Compile budget forecasts and monitor project cash flows. Perform cost engineering and strict cost control and expenditure measures.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously review and improve tendering, estimating and contract administration function, seeking ways to increase efficiency, accuracy and business profitability.
Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
Registration: Professional registration with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is highly advantageous
Experience: Proven experience in Quantity Surveying for 5 Years or more in an E&I Construction environment.
