Job Summary
Our client based in Bryanston is searching for a Linux Engineer
The role of the Linux Engineer is to install, support, manage, maintain Linux in the internal and customer infrastructure. The Linux Engineer requires experience in Linux technologies, such as Redhat, Centos and Ubuntu, as well as a basic server, storage, network, backup, virtualisation technologies. The role requires deep technical skill to troubleshoot and continuously improve Linux availability and performance. The role requires good documentation, deductive and communication skills.
Qualifications / Experience
- At least 6 years’ experience in working with Linux technologies
- Previous experience with installing and configuring servers, storage and or network devices
- RHCSA Certified (Red Hat Certified System Administrator I, II & III) VMware Technical Certified
- Network experience advantageous Security skills advantageous
- Experience with Visio, PowerPoint and Word.
Responsibilities and Duties
Installation, configuration and management of the following technologies:
- Linux (Redhat, Centos and Ubuntu)
- Linux (Basic knowledge of other Linux versions)
- VMware vCentre
- Vcloud Director (Base Knowledge)
- DELL Servers (Base Knowledge)
- DELL Storage Systems (Base Knowledge)
- Compellent, Powervault and Isilon
- Infinidat Storage Systems (Base Knowledge)
- Veeam Backup & Replication Software (Base Knowledge)
- Monitoring and management software
Installations, configurations and patching to vendor best practices Configuration and Installation of the following:
- Virtual Linux Server
- 3rd Party Linux applications
- RAID / LVM
- iSCSI / Multipath (Linux) / IQN
- SMB/NFS
- Windows Servers (Basic Set-up)
- Basic physical networks
- Vcloud Director (Basic Setup)
- Organisation VDC’s
- Provider VDC’s
- Networks
- Storage Policies
- User Access
- Develop and Document Installations Develop standards policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain customer environment documentation Develop and maintain internal environment documentation Capacity and performance reporting
- Troubleshoot Linux issues Research new technologies
- Respond to customer tickets (email) within 30 minutes
- Respond to customer telephone calls
- Attend customer meetings/workshops
