Job Summary
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Group CEO, the successful candidate will:
- Assume responsibility for the overall management and profitability of a multi-billion Rand business unit of a listed company
- Ensure that that the business achieves its short-, medium-, and long-term goals and generates an acceptable return to shareholders
- Implement measures to grow the brand
- Lead, support, and motivate cross functional teams
- Support and drive the values and culture of the business
- Actively engage with all key stakeholders
- Continuously seek out ways to improve all aspects of the business
Key Performance Areas:
- Identify and keep abreast of market trends and changing customer expectations
- Develop the company’s strategy in line with market, industry, and technological developments
- Ensure that there is buy in and commitment to the strategy, and that the strategy is implemented
- Ensure that the structure of the business supports the execution of the strategy in an effective and efficient manner
- Support the procurement function by assisting in establishing, developing, and maintaining key supplier relationships and optimising all aspects of the procurement process
- Support the sales and business development functions in establishing, developing, and maintaining key customer relationships, growing the customer base exceeding customer expectations
- Support the finance function in order to maintain the financial wellbeing of the business by optimising debtors, creditors, working capital and stock management, protecting and optimising the assets of the business, and managing business risk
Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes Required:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma, Commerce or Engineering
- An Honours, Master’s Degree, or equivalent qualification) in Management or Finance will be beneficial but not essential
- Minimum of 15 years’ total work experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ management experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ senior general management experience, having taken full responsibility for a sizable business, or division (R400m turnover, workforce of 300 and multiple locations)
- In depth knowledge of, and ideally exposure to, the entire business value chain (procurement, warehousing, sales, logistics) with a strong emphasis on Trading and Sales
- Ability to run a corporate business without sacrificing entrepreneurial flair
- Ability to implement processes, structures, and disciplines where and when required
- Highly skilled communicator and negotiator
- Ability to balance strategy and operations - the ability to translate strategy into action
- Excellent leadership and managerial skills
- Excellent problem solving, decision making and planning skills
