Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team at one of our entities within our NDT Services and Heat Treatment industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full accounting function with a specific focus on project-based costing, job card administration, financial reporting, and supporting management in strategic financial decision-making. This is a hands-on role suited to a proactive individual who thrives in a technical services environment. This role is based in the Vaal, in Gauteng.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Job Card Accounting
• Manage and maintain accurate project cost accounting for all NDT and heat treatment jobs
• Open, track, and close job cards in coordination with operations and project managers
• Allocate costs (labour, materials, subcontractors, equipment) to relevant job cards
• Monitor project budgets against actual expenditure and flag variances timeously
• Prepare project profitability reports and cost-to-completion analyses
Financial Reporting & Compliance
• Prepare monthly management accounts including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
• Compile and submit VAT returns, PAYE reconciliations, and other statutory submissions
• Assist with year-end audit preparation, working paper files, and liaison with external auditors
• Ensure compliance with IFRS for SMEs or applicable accounting standards
• Maintain fixed asset register and process depreciation journals
Accounts Payable & Receivable
• Oversee creditors and debtors functions, ensuring timely processing and reconciliation
• Manage supplier reconciliations and resolve queries on a timely basis
• Monitor debtors ageing and follow up on outstanding invoices
• Process inter-company transactions and reconciliations where applicable
Budgeting & Forecasting
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts
• Provide variance analysis and commentary to management monthly
• Support cash flow forecasting and treasury management activities
Supervisory & Administrative
• Supervise and provide guidance to junior finance staff or clerks
• Review work prepared by the finance team and ensure accuracy and completeness
• Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
• Liaise with operations, procurement, and project teams on financial matters
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
• BCom Accounting, National Diploma in Accounting, or equivalent qualification
• 4 – 6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a services, projects, or engineering environment
• Proven experience with project/job costing and management accounts
• Proficiency in accounting software (Pastel, Sage, SYSPRO, or similar)
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong understanding of VAT, PAYE, and statutory compliance requirements
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
Advantageous
• Experience in the NDT, engineering, mining, or industrial services sector
• Exposure to ERP systems in a project-driven environment
• Supervisory or team leadership experience
