Job Summary
Our client in the FinTech space (Trade & Supply Chain Finance platform) is looking for a junior Fund Accountant to join their team in Stellenbosch.
The Trade Finance Fund Accountant will support the day-to-day financial management of the Fund, including transaction-level accounting, funding payments and collections, and cash reconciliations across purchase order funding and invoice factoring transactions. The role ensures accurate reporting, covenant monitoring, audit readiness, and compliance as the Fund scales across multiple mandates and counterparties.
Role Specification & Key Responsibilities
- Transaction-Level Accounting
- Monitor system outputs and transaction data
- Record and reconcile all purchase order funding and invoice factoring transactions
- Track capital deployment and repayments per transaction
- Maintain detailed ledgers by SME, obligor, and funding mandate
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition (interest, fees, administration charges)
- Monitor settlement timelines and identify exceptions
- Cash & Bank Reconciliations
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of all Fund bank accounts
- Track funding inflows, repayments, interest receipts, and fee payments
- Monitor funding waterfalls and capital movements
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies timeously
- Funding & Covenant Monitoring
- Track funding utilisation against approved mandates
- Monitor covenant compliance (exposure limits, concentration thresholds, cover ratios)
- Prepare compliance confirmations for internal and external stakeholders
- Escalate potential breaches proactively
- Yield & Cost Allocation
- Calculate gross and net yield per transaction and per mandate
- Allocate funding costs accurately across transactions
- Prepare margin and spread analysis reports
- Reporting & Financial Management
- Prepare monthly management accounts for the Fund
- Produce finance reporting packs
- Provide exposure analysis by counterparty and product type
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Audit & Governance Support
- Maintain a complete audit trail for all transactions
- Support external audits and funder reviews
- Ensure documentation completeness and IFRS compliance
- Maintain adherence to internal governance frameworks
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- BCom Accounting / Finance / Financial Management
- 3–5 years’ experience in fund accounting, trade finance, asset-backed lending, or structured finance
- Strong reconciliation and transactional accounting experience
Preferred:
- Completed articles (SAICA / SAIPA / CIMA)
- Experience in private credit, factoring, or working capital finance
- Exposure to multi-funder or mandate-based structures
Technical Skills
- Strong Excel proficiency
- Sound understanding of accrual accounting and revenue recognition
- Experience with, or understanding of, short-duration lending structures
- Strong cash flow analysis capability
- High attention to detail and reconciliation discipline
