A leading high-volume retail and wholesale operation is seeking an experienced Chief Cashier / Cash Office Supervisor to take ownership of all cash management, reconciliation, banking and cashier supervision functions within a fast-paced trading environment.
This role requires a highly organised and detail-oriented professional with proven experience managing substantial daily cash volumes, leading cashier teams, and ensuring accurate financial controls in a busy retail, wholesale or cash-and-carry environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCash Management & ControlOversee daily cash handling operations across multiple tills and cashier points.
Ensure accurate cash-ups, balancing, reconciliations and end-of-day procedures.
Manage daily banking processes and secure cash transfers.
Investigate and resolve cash variances, discrepancies and shortages.
Ensure strict adherence to cash control policies and internal procedures.
Cash Office OperationsManage all cash office activities including floats, change requirements and cash distribution.
Monitor cash flow and ensure sufficient cash availability for operational requirements.
Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation reports.
Maintain accurate records and audit trails for all cash transactions.
Team LeadershipSupervise, train and support a team of cashiers and cash office personnel.
Monitor staff performance and ensure compliance with company procedures.
Schedule staff and ensure adequate operational coverage during peak trading periods.
Drive a culture of accountability, accuracy and customer service excellence.
Risk & ComplianceEnsure compliance with company policies, financial controls and security procedures.
Support internal and external audit requirements.
Implement measures to minimise cash losses and reduce operational risk.
Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and control.
Minimum RequirementsGrade 12 / Matric.
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a Chief Cashier, Cash Office Supervisor or similar role.
Proven experience handling large daily cash volumes within a bulk food trade environment.
Strong cash reconciliation and banking experience.
Previous experience supervising cashier teams.
Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and retail POS systems.
Highly AdvantageousExperience within wholesale, cash-and-carry, supermarket or fresh produce market environments.
Exposure to high-volume daily cash turnovers.
Experience with stock, sales and cash reconciliation processes.
Knowledge of loss prevention and retail controls.
