PBT Group is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance Engineer to join a high-performing delivery team in Johannesburg. This role is ideal for a QA professional who enjoys ensuring software quality across the full testing lifecycle while working closely with Business Analysts, Developers, and Project teams in an Agile environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in validating business-critical applications through structured testing, defect management, API validation, and database verification, helping deliver reliable, high-quality software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design, review, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on business and technical requirements.
Perform functional, integration, regression, system, and user acceptance testing.
Identify, document, track, and verify defects using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or HP ALM.
Work closely with Developers, Business Analysts, and Project Managers to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
Execute API testing using Postman, SoapUI, or similar tools.
Perform SQL queries and database validation to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
Prepare testing reports, quality metrics, and status updates for stakeholders.
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
Support automation and performance testing initiatives where applicable.
Ensure testing activities comply with established QA standards, processes, and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
3–7 years of hands-on software testing and quality assurance experience.
Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Lifecycle (STLC).
Experience with:
Experience with defect management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or HP ALM.
Hands-on API testing experience using Postman or SoapUI.
Good SQL skills and experience with database testing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Comfortable working in a collaborative Agile delivery environment.
Advantageous Experience
Automation testing using Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar frameworks.
Exposure to Banking, Financial Services, FinTech, Payments, or Card Systems.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
ISTQB or equivalent software testing certification.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Relevant software testing certifications (advantageous).
