Job Summary
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented, and commercially aware finance professional to take ownership of the company’s financial processes and records up to trial balance and management accounts level.
This is not a purely transactional bookkeeping role. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, supporting reporting, and contributing to better financial visibility and decision-making within the business.
This role is ideally suited to a strong Senior Bookkeeper ready to step up, or a Junior Accountant looking for a more hands-on, ownership-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate financial records up to trial balance
- Prepare and/or assist with monthly management accounts, including:
- Profit & Loss
- Balance Sheet
- Cash Flow reporting
- Analyse variances and highlight key insights to management
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Manage and oversee the full AP and AR functions
- Ensure timely supplier payments and effective debtor management
- Monitor cash flow and working capital
Banking & Reconciliations
- Perform and review bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Handle large-volume reconciliations accurately and efficiently
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies proactively
Payroll & Statutory Compliance
- Process or oversee payroll (internal or outsourced)
- Ensure compliance with SARS requirements (PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT)
- Assist with statutory submissions and reporting
Financial Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain and strengthen financial controls and procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and efficiencies
- Ensure audit readiness and proper document management
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors
- Prepare supporting schedules and information for year-end processes
- Act as a key finance support function within the business
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance (ESSENTIAL)
Experience
- Minimum 5 – 8 years’ relevant finance experience
- Proven experience working up to:
- Trial balance
- Management accounts (essential exposure)
- Experience in an SME / operational or trading environment is advantageous
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with Pastel (Partner or Evolution) or similar accounting systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (essential), including:
- Pivot tables
- VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP
- Working with large data sets
- Performing detailed reconciliations and data analysis
- Solid understanding of:
- Accounting principles
- VAT and statutory compliance

Remuneration
R40,000 – R45,000 CTC per month, depending on experience and capability
