The Import Controller is responsible for managing and coordinating import shipments from order through to delivery, ensuring that all required documentation, permits, customs processes and logistics arrangements are handled accurately and efficiently.
The successful candidate will liaise with clearing agents, shipping companies, warehouses, clients and internal departments to ensure the smooth movement and clearance of imported goods.
Matric / Grade 12.
A qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field will be advantageous.
3–5 years' experience in a similar import/logistics role.
Knowledge of import procedures and documentation requirements.
High level of attention to detail.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to take instruction and follow established procedures.
Excellent time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Methodical, organised and efficient approach to work.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
Check and manage documentation for imported shipments and provide support throughout the transportation process, including orders purchased for delivery to multiple destinations.
Liaise with Clearing Agents, warehouse staff, shipping companies, clients and other relevant parties.
Assist with shipping, receiving and record-keeping for international transactions.
Apply for and provide the necessary permits where applicable.
Track shipments and communicate with internal departments regarding the progress of containers.
Coordinate shipments with Clearing Agents to facilitate clearance through Customs, State Veterinary Services and/or Port Health.
Handle and resolve claims with relevant parties in the event of shipment-related issues.
Provide efficient delivery logistics through accurate and effective data management.
Ensure all import documentation and processes are completed accurately and within required timeframes.
Maintain accurate records relating to shipments, clearances and deliveries.
Identify and communicate any delays, discrepancies or issues that may affect the movement of shipments.
Perform any other related duties and responsibilities as reasonably required by management.
Undertake additional tasks as assigned by management, in line with the requirements of the role.
Comply with all applicable health and safety regulations and contribute to a safe working environment.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive and business-related information.
