We are recruiting for a Senior Investment Portfolio Manager within a privately owned investment environment where commercial insight, and strategic thinking are valued just as highly as technical excellence.
This is not your standard finance role. One week may involve evaluating acquisition opportunities, reviewing development feasibility models, analysing operational performance across multiple businesses, attending shareholder strategy sessions, and helping non-financial stakeholders understand why revenue growth means very little if cash flow is under pressure.
Our client manages a diversified South African investment portfolio spanning industries including property, hospitality, automotive, and development. In other words, if you enjoy complexity, variety, and operating across multiple sectors without feeling boxed into one finance discipline, this environment will suit you well.
The successful candidate will partner closely with shareholders and senior executives, taking responsibility for portfolio oversight, investment analysis, Board reporting, governance, financial modelling, and strategic decision support across numerous entities.
This role requires someone commercially sharp, highly analytical, and adaptable enough to move comfortably between operational discussions, investment reviews, strategic planning sessions, and high-level financial analysis, sometimes all before lunch.
You’ll need the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders at executive level while still being hands-on enough to troubleshoot a financial model moments before a presentation without losing composure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the financial and operational performance of a diversified investment portfolio
- Prepare consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual Board reporting packs
- Perform financial modelling, DCF valuations, ROI analysis, and scenario planning
- Monitor portfolio performance against strategic investment objectives
- Lead financial due diligence processes for acquisitions and investment opportunities
- Compile investment memoranda and strategic recommendations for shareholders and directors
- Analyse operational and sector-specific financial performance indicators
- Manage relationships with banks, auditors, tax consultants, and external stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, governance frameworks, and statutory reporting requirements
- Oversee treasury functions, tax compliance, and cash flow forecasting
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks across the portfolio
- Travel to operational sites, developments, and investment assets when required
Job Experience and Skills Required:
- CA(SA) qualification with active SAICA registration (essential)
- Minimum 8–10 years post-articles experience
- Exposure to investment houses, family offices, private equity structures, or diversified investment portfolios
- Strong experience in financial reporting, consolidations, and Board-level reporting
- Advanced financial modelling and investment analysis skills
- Exposure to property, hospitality, development, automotive, or diversified investment sectors (required)
- Strong understanding of IFRS, South African tax legislation, and corporate governance principles
- Advanced Excel skills with strong modelling capability
- Excellent commercial acumen and ability to manage multiple high-level deliverables simultaneously
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Competency Requirements:
- Strategic and analytical thinking
- Strong commercial awareness
- Leadership and influencing capability
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Sound decision-making ability
- Stakeholder relationship management
- Professionalism and discretion
- Adaptability and resilience
- Results-driven mindset
